Our night temps are getting down to the 70's... right now I have the window open and fans off!  Won't last much longer but it is nice for now!

Our night temps starting tomorrow is supposed to be in the upper 30s, but its been up in the 80s and low 90s for the past few days.  Its been zig zagging all over the place.  Makes me wonder what our winter is going to be like this year.  Normally by now I have the A/C turned off, but its still on and running.

The days are shorter and the air is cooler.  We had a fairly mild summer and it seems fall will be the same.   Highs in the 70's/80's and lows in the 60's.  Of course, we always have thunderstorms off and on.

We had some rain this past weekend.  It was a little cool on Saturday - wore a windbreaker at Heather's soccer game.

Lucky you!  The temp here has been all over the place.  In the 80s one day,  highs in the 50s the next and windy.  It just doesn't know what it wants to do.  We are supposed to get rain this weekend, but I don't think thats going to happen. We have gotten so little rain and everything is so dry that just a small spark will start off a firestorm.

When we first moved to SC in 2002, they hadn't had enough rain that year, not many thunderstorms.  Well, that winter we had a HUGE ice storm.

For the most part, we get all four seasons here.  The only one I don't care for is winter.  I am miserable Jan-Mar.

Hopefully you'll get some good rain this weekend!  I imagine you have to water a good deal without it.  Do you have metered water or do you pay a flat fee?

Neither.  For most of our irrigation, we pump out of the lake, so whatever the power bill is going to be is what it costs.  Since we also water the corn field behind us, around 200 acres, its $12,000 to $15,000 irrigate from April to September.  I use hand line to irrigate the lawn and my garden.

We are on our own well for the house water.  The pump really isn't big enough to run a sprinkler and do anything else in the house except flush a toilet. So I try not to use the house pump for watering.  Again, it costs whatever the electricity costs to run.

Wow, that's a pretty hefty bill, but I imagine the savings in producing a lot of your own food is well worth it.

That just shows with a city girl I am!  LOL.  I forgot all about wells.  I did know about pumping out of the lake.  You reminded me that my inlaws do that to water their lawn.  Since water is metered here, it is a big savings to pump out of the lake.

The cooler weather for one. I did some browsing in the second hand stores yesterday and found a barely used radiator space heater for winter time for only 6 bucks which was a steal and it works great. We don't need to start using it yet but I plugged it in at the store before buying it. We have forced air heating but sometimes there are places in the house that still feel cold so this will come in handy.I love the Fall and the Halloween decorations that are out now are pretty cute. I plan on my decorating the  house a bit for Fall with some small pumpkins and Indian corn as I always do. ;0)

Right now the field is full of corn and its starting to dry.  Probably about December it will get cut.

We've been thinking this next year about putting in spring wheat on about a 1/2 acre that we have in the yard.  I've been battling weeds etc. there for years so thought that we would throw that in and see what it does.  Then in the fall if it does good, we'll go out and thresh by hand.  Saves on my chicken feed and I can grind up some for flour.

Do you grow your own pumpkins and corn?

I always have tons of cornstocks every year to decorate, but it just never gets done.  Or if I do, then I don't have the time to get it down until probably June.  <LoL>

No, I wish I could but I really dont have the room here. I usually just pick them up at our local produce stand or grocery stores.
