My experience lately has been counterintuitive.  When I get up, they are right there, and I think they come from under the bed.  However, while it has been cold in the winter, they have not been on the bed that much.  But last summer, in the warmth, they were on the bed almost every night.  Several times in the last week, two of them were in a cat pile on the bed, but ironically in a way to push me to the center of the bed, while in the summer, it is to push me off the bed.  To give them a treat, I then flipped on the electric blanket.

My first two cats (rb) had a set pattern of coming up on the bed, and where they would sleep.  If one came up early, she would leave until the other one came up and took her place, and then she would come up.

Only a couple of times in the past two years have all three been on the bed at once.  Of course, that means I am pinned to the bed, unable to move.

I wouldn't dream (pun intended) of denying them the privilege of sleeping on the bed.  I have up to five of them on any given night, but Lionel, who is a loner, always spends the night on a pillow in a rocking chair and goes downstairs in the wee hours, where he transfers to a dining chair.  The chair is a burgundy color, and Lionel is beige, so he contributes his own little furry touch to my decor

The cats sometimes sleep better than I do, as they tend to appropriate my space <g>.

My two furgirls take turns sleeping on the bed, though occasionally they'll share. It's a king-sized bed, so they can both be on the bed and not have to touch each other. During the day, they both sleep there, but at night it's usually just Nutmeg, at Frank's feet. She grumbles at him if he moves. Amber sleeps next to one of the heat vents, but jumps up on the bed to wake me up in the morning.

I've discovered that if I leave a small cotton blanket folded at the foot of the bed, they'll sleep on that. It's simpler to wash the blanket frequently (getting rid of the shed fur) than the entire bedspread. <g>

Some of my seat cushions around the house are well-furred too. <g> The futon in the sunroom is a favored nap spot.

Suzi loves a blanket draped over the chair to sleep on, but I find that I have to use a brush to try and remove all the cat fur.  If I put it into the washing machine, I not only have to deal with cat fur all inside the washer, what remains on the blanket sort of gets imbedded into the fabric, and I have to pull out the tufts.

While i used to love to sit in that chair a lot, it is now hers.  I forgot recently, and wound up with a lot of car fur on my pants.  LOL.

<<It's a king-sized bed>>

That size usually barely fits two cats.

Scooter used to sleep on mom's bed or in a small round cat bed next to my computer.  He always seemed too big for that bed, but he curled up in it anyway.

Brandy sleeps on my bed, or on the couch, or in my daughter's old room - we put Scooter's bed in there after washing it, and now she will sleep in it.  We had bought her a bed once before, but she ignored it.

Snowy sleeps on mom's bed.  He had jumped up on my bed, even though that is Brandy's territory.

OF COURSE she does! <G>

We have a sort of "battle for bed-space" going though. I sleep on my stomach and I'm the sort who tosses and turns just a bit during the night, though less now than in years past. Consequently, Bonesie's habit of sleeping on top of the blanket between my knees can cause some issues. It's sort of funny; not something that makes me angry at all. I lift up my left leg, as though doing a Yoga stretch, and she rolls down the "slope" of the blanket and will end up snoozing against my right leg. But then I turn a little and she moves.

Sometimes she sleeps on the floor, on an article of clothing that I tossed near the bed, especially for that purpose. She seems to favor clothing that I have worn during a long night's work (a shirt, sweater, pair slacks etc.) which I suppose means she likes my "scent."

Very occasionally, I'll wake up and find her beside my pillow, which is where she slept when I first got her.

And when I'm ready to get out of bed, she seems to know: She comes over and licks the end of my nose, or gives me gentlest little bites that I call "cat kisses."

She has the good sense never to do this hours before I'm ready to get up. For that, I'm grateful!

Bradley

Zoe likes to sleep on the bed with me when Hubby is gone. She will sleep at the foot, between my feet. If I am sick or not feeling well, she will sleep as close as possible to me, and if I move she raises her head and looks at me and "asks if I'm all right" in Furglish. She isn't allowed in the bedroom when Hubby is home, so she pretends to race him to the bedroom just to hear him fuss at her. I think her favorite time is when she and I are in the living room and I am watching tv. She will climb in my lap and just lay there for as long as I can sit in one position. She also likes to nap on the futon downstairs in the kids play/tv room. We have to vacuum it regularly.

If I take an afternoon siesta, 5 of my 6 will join me. Princess and MRPE will get on my lap, while Tigger, Zoom and Marco Polo will surround me. If I'm under the covers..I'm pinned down<GG>

Buttercup used to sleep with me, but I guess he's too big for that now..18 pounds!! (Maybe if I had a king sized bed???)

Heinz(Earl) is our current bedpartner at night, as the MBR is his territory.

Since wifemate goes to bed an hour or three before I do, he sleeps with her until I get there, then he chirps (Errlll)and jumps to sleep between me and the edge of the bed. He usually sleeps at mid hip, so he can rest his head in/by my hand. He'll do many reversals finding the right spot..chirping at every move (Grrr) He's started sleeping at my shoulder, but only 2-3 times.

Around 3AM, he may decide to attack the toe mice, or the mice on the floor. He then gets banished to the bathroom, with the door closed until we get up.

BTW..sorry to take so long, but the Banfield certificate will be mailed tomorrow.

LOL! Been there, done that, and of course I was wearing my dark navy slacks at the time instead of the cream-colored ones.

Yep, unless the cats like to cuddle, and mine most emphatically do not.

<g> Sometimes Amber will sleep on the bed at night, but most of the time it's Nutmeg who does. They also wander into the kids' rooms and curl up on their beds too, but seldom stay all night.

Except my son's room at the moment. He's growing green bean plants for a school science project, and has to keep the door firmly latched shut at all times. Nutmeg discovered the plants and ate two of them before he caught her at it.

I sprouted two more pots' worth for him to use for display purposes. The fair is sometime the first week of March, and after that we'll decide how to keep the bean plants safe from Nutmeg. They're blooming and have beans on them now , and the kids want to keep them growing so we can have fresh green beans to eat in March instead of late June. <g>

Angel and Katie were very young when I adopted them.  I joked that I had KWF each night.  That stands for kitty wrestling federation on the bed, when they would vigorously wrestle, while trying to not make a sound.  I would get an occasional tail in the face, but for the most part they tried to avoid me.

If there was a full moon, and I had the drapes pulled, I could see them face off.  It was great entertainment.   It has been a couple of years since I became their 'servant', and they spend fewer nights on the bed, but they still will do an occasional face-off.

Come summer, it should be interesting so see if things change.  For reasons I don't understand, they seemed to want to spend the night on the bed during hot weather, and less during cold weather.

But they are still the best of buddies, and will often chase each other around the house, with the crooked trail fluffed up a bit.  Suzi just looks on with mild amusement.  After all, she is the senior in the house, so nap time is the most important thing for her.

Basil and Molly will sleep on my bed night or day. They will both cuddle with me but not with each other. Basil will sleep between my feet. Molly will usually sleep next to me at waist level. Basil will walk from my feet to my chest to remind me to feed the cat.

Molly is a bit high strung and is easily startled. One night I move my arm and it landed on her.  She woke with a start and ran across me leaving a number of claw wounds. Last week, I had placed my nad on her while dreaming. I noticed enough to think "cat butt" and then she bit my hand and jumped off the bed.

This morning Zoe climbed in my lap for a cuddle - something she usually does only at night. It took me a minute to realize that she was there to get warm. It is 24 degrees here outside, and she thought it was cold in here too. I have a suspicion she had tried to nap downstairs and discovered it was a bit chillier than upstairs.

They do seem to have the seasons reversed. :) Sometimes it's difficult to fathom what goes on in their furry little heads.

Mine also like to sleep in the cat bed atop the cat tree in the winter time, close to the ceiling where it's warmest. In summer, they rarely nap there. Then they jump to the platform just below it and stare out the window at the bird feeder.

Ouch! I hope the scratches and bite weren't too deep. Cat scratches, especially, can really sting.

<g> When we acquired our feline friends, we never imagined we'd have a second career as a heat source.

I walked into my bedroom the other day, and felt it was chillier than usual. I then discovered that Amber was napping on one of the vents, preventing some of the airflow (and heat) into the room.
