I've already ordered a copy, so I guess that means I'll be wearing my diaper at home. <G>

Windows 7 is supposed to be available for download from Microsoft on October 22. We'll see. Then it'll be time to see whether the CAT program works with it!

Are you looking forward to the new operating system? Do you just use whatever comes with your computer?

I've upgraded twice before in my life: From MS-DOS 5 to 6.22, and from Windows 3.11 for Workgroups to Windows 95. Otherwise, I've just used whatever came with the computer.

On a scale of "peeing-my-pants excited" to "meh," how do you feel about the release of Windows 7?

Since I'm still happy with my XP and no reason to change from it yet, I guess I'm in the "meh" category.  I might be more excited/interested if I had been keeping up on what all the hooplah is about Windows 7, other than the fact that it frees people from being stuck with Vista.

I'm the lone voter for number 4 right now.  And that's because I'm happy with Windows XP.  Have been for a long time.  It ain't broke, and all that.  <g>

But I plan on buying a new laptop in a couple months, and I will probably have to get one with Windows 7 on it, because I refuse to get Vista.  And I probably won't be able to get one with XP on it.  But I'm not buying until I get the go ahead from our IT guy, who just walked in the door with his copy.  So I should get his opinion sometime next week.   We shall see.

But as far as my desktop at home, number 4 applies.  ;o)

Brenda:

I'm planning on being freed from Vista. It really not all that bad -- but it's really not all that good either. Since I couldn't downgrade to XP on the laptop, it's getting an upgrade instead. Some of the worst Vista headaches have been sorted out with the service packs, of course, so 7 probably won't feel a whole lot different.

I bought a copy of 7 when Microsoft had it on sale. For $50, I'll have an all-new laptop. And have to reinstall and reconfigure all my programs.

Wait. This is a good idea -- why? <G>

My desktop won't change.

Well, not again. I've just reinstalled XP on another partition, and it's flying again. The moldering five-plus-year installation of XP I've been working in has been getting gunked up pretty bad, but it's been largely stable. Now that I realize how fast it could be -- well, I'm about to wipe this partition and stick with the new installation.

I'm a Mac user ... and I won't settle!  Never ...!!

Of course, my little Dell isn't powerful enough to run anything newer than XP, so no plans to upgrade that one.

I was surprised to find that my desktop is rated for Windows 7. I bought better than I thought all those years ago. Mind you, it's near the bottom of the stack, but it really should run acceptably well. So I'll probably try it on a spare partition just to see how well it really performs. But I have no real plans to use 7 on a day-to-day basis on this system.

Tim --

Sounds like a good plan ...!

My poor laptop's specs are pretty low.  It only has one USB port!

Of course, it only cost me $110, so I guess I can't complain too much.  It does what I need it to do ...!

Ditto everything Brenda said.  I'm happy with XP and don't really know enough about it to want to upgrade.  I suppose that eventually I'll buy a new system and will have to at that point, but for now my netbook with XP is fine for me.

Nikki:

Not going to fix it since it's not broken; right? Not a bad philosophy.

I do actually believe that 7 is a true upgrade to Vista, and I'm looking forward to upgrading my laptop!
