Just a reminder that the nasal H1N1 vaccine is a live-virus vaccine while the injectable vaccine is a dead-virus vaccine.

In my wife's case, for instance, she has a compromised immune system due to medications that she takes (Remicade IV for severe arthritis) so she can't take any live-virus vaccines.  Both of us, however, will be getting the injectable dead-virus vaccine when it becomes available to us..  connie

If i was retired, I'd consider not getting the vaccine (I've already had my "regular flu" shot). ... but with 100 people coming to my office during tax season -- many of them with small children -- I will be as protected as I can be.

I've heard that people our age may have some partial immunity, due to having had the "Asian Flu" in the 1950s, but I'm not really willing to assume that!

I had flu in 1957 and a really knock-you-flat case in 1971, so I might have some immunity.  Also, I'm out of the age range that is targeted for vaccination.  However, if I get a chance for the injected vaccine, I will take it.  I don't want to take a chance, as a diabetic.

Same here, Dot..  It will probably be a few weeks yet before Kaiser gets enough H1N1 vaccine for normal distribution vaccinations...  connie

I'm in the "wait and see" group.  I'll be 59 at the end of next month and am thus on the edge of the group that likely has some natural immunity (I sure have natural immunity to a whole bunch of other diseases).  The H1N1 vaccine is likely going to be in short supply for a while, so I'd rather people at higher risk than I am get it first.

Marte..  I called the Kaiser hotline and as of yesterday, Kaiser said they had received a small amount of the H1N1 baccine and expected it to trickle in over the next few weeks.  While they are doing the mass flu shot clinics for the seasonal flu, it sounds like H1N1 will be on a walk-in basis (along with the regular flu shot after the mass clinics are finished)...  connie

I'll keep an eye out for the H1N1 clinics, but as I said, I'm in no hurry.  Although I do get exposed to a bus full of germs twice a week.

As a volunteer with my local hospital, and as a Santa who will be seeing hundreds of kids this Season, I really didn't have any choice. I had my jab on Friday.
