I voted "I Don't Know; He's Still Pointing That Finger," which doesn't exactly reflect my feelings, but it's closer than any of the other choices.  That response suggests that he hasn't done anything yet, which isn't really the case.  I just don't know what the outcome of what he has done will be.  I haven't given up hope, but I feel more insecure than I did on voting day.  OTOH, I could not have voted for McCain.

... Don't Know; He's Still Pointing That Finger,"

It's funny how we all interpret things differently.  I just meant it to mean "I don't know;  he's still talking, working, trying, moving along.;  we'll just have to wait and see....whatever."  :-)  Pointing his finger for emphasis when he talks is his least attractive characteristic and a very condescending gesture.  I interpret it that way, because I've had three people in my life that pointed their fingers at other people when they were being "emphatic" about something. I automatically go into a negative mode.   My first husband was so bad about it, I used to grab his finger and hang on until he begged me to let go.  I had a wonderful grip.  :-)  My daughter-in-law shook her finger in my face one time, because she didn't like the way I was holding her baby, and I just looked at her and quietly said "if you know what's good for you, you'll never do that again."

Then I voted the right choice in your poll for my take on matters at this point.

Pointing his finger for emphasis when he talks is his least attractive characteristic and a very condescending gesture.

I agree, it's not a very attractive gesture.  It's funny, the subject of pointing has come up a number of times on our household over the years, and Dale insists we should never point.  He says if you need to indicate direction, you gesture, but NEVER point.  I wish it were that simple, but when you need to indicate something that's at a slightly more remote distance, I don't think gestures quite do the trick like an on-target point.  Can you see yourself gesturing as you say, "See?  It's right there in that row of trees, right where I'm gesturing."  However, I agree with Dale in principle ... don't point!

I voted the same, even if it is my poll.  We can't change our votes.  I set it up to last only a week.  Will refresh it when I can.  I always want to know other peoples' take on things.

Ah "the pointing finger flits and having flit, moves on!"    Okay...I know that was bad.

I was always taught that pointing was rude, so I agree with Dale; however, as you have "pointed" out, sometimes it's unavoidable. I have to say I haven't seen Mr. Obama use that technique, or if I did see it, it escaped my attention.

As far as the poll, I think he's doing a good job considering what he walked into. He can't turn the country around in this amount of time; the stimulus money has barely gotten out into the states; I've been reading a lot of good articles at www.slate.com and its sister publications for insight.

He punches the air with his finger for emphasis.  I don't consider that quite like pointing, but it's not the most attractive gesture he could make.  OTOH, I don't have a suggestion for a different one that is as emphatic.

I've been reading a lot of good articles at www.slate.com and its sister publications for insight.

That's a habit I should cultivate.  I'm getting awfully lazy about trying to keep myself informed.

I will have to look for that. I just realized that I get most of my news from the Web, not TV, so I might not see that gesture any time soon!

I'm finding I need to know the facts so I can correct the right-wing bloviators and Obama  haters. I truly like our president and wish him success. Our country needs his leadership, but the zealots and "Birthers" are doing their best to destroy the country with their innuendo and accusations. And with our "I want it now" mentality, he may not get the chance to see his programs and ideas succeed and move America forward.

Same here.  I not only wish him success; I wish our country success and improved times under his leadership.  We're way overdue for someone who acts the part of leader without leading us down the garden path.

Oh, I totally agree. As my favorite rock star, Bruce Springsteen, famously said, "blind allegiance to anyone or anything, including politicians, can get you killed." (Paraphrasing here, but the point remains.)

The poll needs a "As well as can be expected" or "About as good as I expected" option.

Frankly I think he is doing a rather good job when  you consider the fact that the deck is seriously stacked AGAINST a president. Any president, don't matter who.

A president can easily make things worse.. but making improvements that is PROgress, takes the corporation of CONgress, and as you know Pro and Con are opposites

Hi Dot:

I think it is still too early to come up with any valid evaluation of Obama's performance.     If one had to go by just what his legacy would be from the time  in office so far,   there would be no legacy at all.   I do not perceive that the Obama administration has actually accomplished anything so far.

With one exception.   The policies of the Obama administration have substantially improved the opinions of the US around the globe.

In fact according to the Pew Global Attitudes Project,  global opinions about the U.S. have improved dramatically in almost every country surveyed.

There are several other interesting charts at Pew in this article.

I agree.  We've heard plans, or proposed outlines of plans, but there hasn't been enough time for things to go from the planning stage to the execution (no pun) stage just yet.

With one exception.   The policies of the Obama administration have substantially improved the opinions of the US around the globe.

Where did we have to go but up?  Some of those chart numbers were pretty impressive.

Sadly that is the truth.  There was no where to go BUT up from the bottom.

The changes in the German population and in UK 86% was a major change.

How long will they last. when the "honeymoon"  is over?    :-)
