I was a Navcis user for many years and have to say I don't miss it in the least. Once I was accustomed (short time) to the new format I liked it really well!

Judy,

I was a die-hard classic user!  I didn't like webview at all, and rarely used.  Surprisingly, I liked the new software!  There are things I'd like to see "fixed".  Like the "NEXT" button from going gray all the time, but I can live with this.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I like the ability to add colors, change fonts, attach photos etc. And after the initial "get used to it" period I can move through the threads and messages quickly.

Every system will have some drawbacks but this one has a lot of good points too!

You are right...being able to change fonts, colours and put photo's into messages is cool.  Will we ever all be happy with what we have here?  Probably not, but this isn't so bad, and I did find it pretty user-friendly right away.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Certain promised improvements have not been made and pretty obviously will never be made. I'm thinking first of all about the interactive thread view, but there are others. I've stayed with CompuServe nonetheless because of the content and also to keep my long-time e-mail address, but the format as such remains clunky and at times an obstacle, and I don't like it.

The new format is much more tolerable since they increased the number of messages per page to 20 and since I got a faster computer which allows me to use the wysiwyg editor (it's a cycle hog, but with a 2.8 machine, it works pretty well), which gives me easy access to a bunch of things in the formatting and linking area.

I still miss the thread view, and there are lots of odd quirks in the system (like the fact the the "Print Discussion" format is so much different from the usual thread view (although not as weird as it was just after changeover-- remember how it centered each line?), and loses what little threading information is available {grrr}).  Another weirdity is in the Advanced Search where you can pick a forum name from a pulldown (when you want to limit a search to messages from/to a particular person), but if the name isn't in the list, you have to switch to the screen name for the box to the right of the pulldown.  And the fact that moving the mouse cursor outside of the entry box when entering a reply can cause loss of the text cursor.  Advanced search seems to be getting slower and slower, and so often doesn't return stuff I know is there (but Google access may eventually make that moot.)

So compared to the old system, it is now a little better.  But compared to some of the other forum tools on the market, it isn't all that great.  The lack of documentation/helps is a continuing PITA  (when are we ever going to find out what "Using the boolean expression" in Advanced Search means?!).

I guess I'd say I've learned to tolerate it.  "Like" is too strong a word. {G}

Hi, Judy,

Everything works well except for the Subscriptions area.  I  keep getting messages via email from StephKlutz ...my personal name for the system.  I _don't_ want to subscribe...I keep clicking the unsubscribe button but the messages then seem to quadruple.  Help for us poor illiterates out here who are caught in a cybercage.

Thanks,

Thea

Hi Thea, good to see you but sorry about the glitch. I believe TPTB are looking at the problem.

Judy, thanks for the hope you'e offering on the Subcription snafu but I'm not holding my breath. ( grin)  I've exchanged gripes with several people about this problem which we share.  Who is this StephKlutz (or whatever) whose finger gets in the pie?  I assume that they think they're doing folks a favor. Ha!

Stay warm and dry.

Thea

If it's the person I have in mind, Steph works for Prospero.
