Mark,

The ribbons make sense once you start using them.  Come back any time as you know we are always willing to help!

I'm sure they do Betty and my intent is to use them. I just didn't want to have to go through the learning curve at *this time.

However, on either the entry Office or Word link there's a Flash presentation that has an interactive Word 2003 indicating where in the 2007 ribbon the corresponding command is situated--that is PERFECTO! I'm hoping that MS did the same thing for OL and Excel.

Since FireFox wouldn't display, hmmm I wonder why, I used IE and couldn't bookmark the flash. You could save me a ton of time and give me that link if you know it offhand otherwise I'll need to "re-find" it.

Thanks Betty...you're a champ!

Excellent tool and excellent folks behind it.

After first installing and trying Word I must have accidently hit the shortcut for the new full page resize slide bar feature and I shrunk the page to very, very small. After some panic time, I realized the error of my way and I'm back on course. Unfortunately they do not have a similar feature out for Outlook...yet.

Thanks again,

Mark

Thanks for reporting back on that new tool, Mark. There are apparently others who wish to put off the inevitable learning until they have more time.     -Jerry

I've just taken the plunge from Office 2000 to Home and Student 2007.

First reaction must be favourable, though I do miss the cute paperclip office assistant <weeping face> just loved his eyes .... swoon

It is certainly a whole new learning curve.

My first comment is that I wish I could reduce the size of the ribbon by selecting small icons as opposed to the default large but I cannot see how to do that.....

I have no experience with any of this, Wendy. The RibbonCustomizer may be the answer for you. If you're in to programming, look into RibbonX.      -Jerry

Hi Jerry,

Appreciate the links but those utilities look rather too complex for me.  It is a shame that Microsoft don't provide the simple option to select large or small icons or make the ribbon depth adjustable. Hopefully they will in the future but at the moment there is more than enough to excercise my poor brain getting to grips with the new working environment and finding where all the familiar controls have gone!

Hi Wendy,

Did you find the way to minimize the Ribbon? You can do it by right-clicking on the Ribbon, then Minimize.

Wendy,

Did you check out the links in the first message of this thread.  They are maps for the ribbons.  Such as I used to go to edit >paste where is it on the ribbons.

Hi Hans,

Yes I found that, but the ribbon then disappears <initial shock> But then by ticking Minimise again there it it <g>  No I was hoping for an option to customise it by choosing smaller icons and having the ability to adjust its depth by dragging the bottom line up or down.

The Quick Access toolbar is handy as you can add icons that you use frequently to it.

It always takes time to learn a new system but when you loose a function that you used to have it is frustrating.

Hi Betty,

I have checked the links and downloaded the "workbooks" and am sure they will help a great deal.  Thanks.

The best way to learn is to do some work and use the new interface and so I have found it quite intuitive.

Hi Wendy,

No, at this moment it can't be done. But MS is under pressure to have the people let customize the ribbon, so I think it will be done in a near future (SP1?)

Kind regards

Hans

That's what I did.  I have the problem of going back and forth between the old and new way of doing tasks.  We have Office XP at Work and I have Office 2007 at home, it at times drives me crazy :-)
