REACT: 2009 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS

KANYE WEST CRASHES TAYLOR SWIFT'S MTV VMA MOMENT!

Kanye West can be an outspoken individual.

OK, so maybe that's an understatement!

However, many are saying that he has now crossed the line once too often, thanks to his dramatics at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

As Taylor Swift was starting her acceptance speech after receiving her very first MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video for 'You Belong to Me,' West stormed on stage, grabbed the microphone and remarked, "Taylor, I'm really happy for you, and I'm gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time."

The incident prompted a chorus of boos from the crowd and applause for a stunned Swift, who had reportedly been taken from the stage in tears.  She would then return shortly thereafter in a subway station for a performance of her award-winning song.  As the evening progressed, references to West would continue to be greeted by a chorus of boos.

However, as the final award was announced, one that was received by Beyonce for 'Single Ladies,' the singer recalled her first VMA award earned as a 17-year-old member of Destiny's Child, then in a classy and touching moment, remarked "I remember how excited I was.  I'd like Taylor to come out and have her moment."

Swift returned to the stage to a standing ovation and continued to share what would have presumably been the remainder of her original acceptance speech.

For his part, West later took to his blog to apologize for the incident, claiming "I'M SOOOOO SORRY TO TAYLOR SWIFT AND HER FANS AND HER MOM. I SPOKE TO HER MOTHER RIGHT AFTER AND SHE SAID THE SAME THING MY MOTHER WOULD'VE SAID. SHE IS VERY TALENTED!"  Find out more.

What did you think of West's actions?  How about Beyonce's decision to turn her time over to Taylor?

Do you believe that there will be any positive or negative repercussions to either/both West's and/or Swift's career as a result of the incident?

Albeit its the VMA awards where drama exists however West showed no class and acted like an ass to get further attention.
Pretty poor role model.

Kanye did more harm to his own people than he did to Taylor Swift.  He acted irresponsibily and without regard to anyone.  The rampant Racism in the political right wing of our government, at this time in our history basically protesting a African American President and Kanye comes out and performs to the stereotype of thuggery and disrespect.  It only fuels the underbelly of those already existing racist in this country.  Kanye even so sellfishly made it even harder for the young Black male to climb above this negative stereotype.    He should be punished.  Taylor Swift is a very talented young 17YO girl.  It doesn' t matter if she is purple he has no right to take away her moment.  So sick !!!!

I Agree with you florabund1, not only were Kanye's actions RUDE, CRASS, CLASSLESS & Insulting, but he should be banned from any future VMA performances or award shows for that matter. He's an R&B star, naturally his type of music doesn't match with that of the class of Taylor Swift. These are the type of antics that throw me off of watching things like BET, it's just appaling to see that even with an African- American president, some African-Americans just can't get over the fact that they're not the best at something. Frankly, I am an African-American female who just happens to LOVE COUNTRY MUSIC & thinks that Taylor Swift DESERVED HER AWARD for Best Female Video & EVERY OTHER AWARD she got, so I for one am very UPSET WITH THE FACT THAT Kanye ACTED THE WAY HE DID & I think he Should DEFINITELY BE PUNISHED FOR HIS ACTIONS, JUST an APOLOGY WON'T CUT IT THIS TIME. I think he [and every other R&B star out there with probable exception of NE-YO needs to go to a COUNTRY MUSIC CONCERT or even a COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS SHOW & LEARN WHAT CLASS IS ABOUT, they sure do party better than the VMA'S anyway, but at least they have some sort of decorum about themselves. That Russell Brand guy isn't any better, I mean they need to stop letting him host these things I WAS ALMOST TEMPTED NOT TO WATCH [I only watched to see if Taylor Swift was going to get an award], he's just as classless and needs to not be ALLOWED TO HOST THE VMA'S ANYMORE BECAUSE HE HAS NO MATURITY LEVEL or CLASS. I was so turned off on Sunday that I ENDED UP WATCHING BIG BROTHER THE WHOLE NIGHT AFTER THE TAYLOR SWIFT INCIDENT...it was just shameful
