Bakul,

I see where you were finally able to pull your fingers off the V key. (vbg)

With that lineup of purchases, you cover the "Big Ten."  I hold shares on all those ETF.  Are you skewing the portfolio toward small-cap and value?

Lowell,

I've attached my allocation targets in a spreadsheet with this post. The targets were determined after I took the IFA survey a few months ago when I deployed the experimental passive portfolio.

Bakul,

The mix looks very familiar. (g)

Have you set up any Mosaic portfolios where you have some stocks mixed in with the ETFs, or are you separating them completely?

Purchased IDV for a number of portfolios.

I tried to determine the expected dividend/yield this ETF paid in 2008 and would pay in 2009.  I found conflicting numbers.  One said a dividend of $9.05 was distributed I assume this was for all of 2008 but with a $20 Price this does not seem viable.  Another said a yield of 14.52% based upon TTM.  This same site indicated an SEC yield of 7.23%.  The SEC yield being based upon prior 30 days results. My question is what dividend and yield are you expecting for 2009?

I also note this ETF has taken a 62% decline from its high in 2008.  This seems like a overly significant decline for a high dividend paying ETF.  It seems like the market must not believe the dividend is secure.  I note this ETF has most of its investments in Asia/Europe and shows a price to cash flow of 3.4.  Thus this ETF seems extremely underpriced unless there is some hidden risk I am overlooking.  What is your take?

I do note the technical indicators look quite bullish with a bottoming pattern being made and an uptrend seems to be in process.  IDV seems poised to soon break its 50d EMA.

Dan,

Based on the dividends last year, I would assume something between 8% and 9%.  If the world economy dips even more, the yield may go into the 7% level.  I know some individual stocks are in that area such as DOW and PFE.  However, one is hanging their hat on one company as I did with DOW, whereas IDV holds a number of company.  The IDV are deep value international holdings and I needed to boost the international percentage in a few portfolios.

While the IDV StockCharts graph looks encouraging, no one has a clue what it will look like from today going forward.  RSI gave it a buy back in July and we see what happened from that date going forward.  If it goes down another 10% to 15%, that is only a few dollars.

Lowell

When a yield is this high, there is always risk.  It is one I am wiling to take at this point.

HI Bakul;

Thanks for sharing your asset allocation. I noticed you have about 30% of your equity etf portfolio in international holdings. What is your overall % allocation to international (in your total investing portfolio)?

Thanks,

Barb

Barbara,

I haven't set an international allocation target on my core portfolio unlike my experimental ETF portfolio as you have observed that it is high.  On a revenue basis, my core portfolio companies, given that they are multinationals,  generate 50% of revenue in US while the remaining 50% is generated in foreign markets.
