Obama Promises 'A New Dawn' for All

President-elect Barack Obama addressed an enthusiastic crowd of some 125,000 people at his victory rally shortly after Senator John McCain conceded Tuesday night.  Mr. Obama promised "A new dawn of American leadership" was at hand.  How do you think _your_ life may be most affected?

Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd of admirers in Chicago as well as to tens of millions of people around the world via television and other media, President-elect Obama told his fellow Americans that last night's victory "belongs to you."

"The road ahead will be long, the climb will be steep, we will not get there in one year or even in one term.

"But tonight I have never been so hopeful that we will get there.  Block by block, brick by brick, callused hand by callused hand.

"This victory alone is not the change we seek.  It is only the chance for us to make that change."

The president-elect then alternatively offered a warning and a promise to Americans and to people around the world:

"To those who would tear the world down, we will defeat you.  To those who seek peace and security, we support you."

Overall, President-elect Obama promised that "A new dawn of American leadership is at hand."

How do you think his promise of hope for the future is likely to be received by our friends -- and our adversaries -- around the world?

How Will Pres. Obama Change Your Life?

<<<

Not at all. I'm in control my own life. Never do I look for government to do anything at all for me.

I wish Obama the best of success. It is going to be a very tough job.

What do you think he will do that will most strongly impact your life and that of those around you?

Ultimately, we are ALL in control of our lives.  However, no man is an island.....

President-elect Obama will give those who were hopeless, hope. By doing this, my life will be greatly improved. When others do well, I do well.  That's the beauty of life.

Its probably to early to tell if Obama will change our lives.   At least he will not make the mistakes of the Bush administration.

Amen to that Monty.

Throughout this entire campaign I have always felt that America could do no worse after what we have endured under this neo-con administration that failed miserably under the guise of claiming to be Republican.

Wherever it leads, the time for a fresh path in a new direction has been long overdue and it's past the time to give the voice back to the people!

You were the only opposition proponent to say something nice about the new administration.

Thank you, for that.

Well, I had said in here a couple of times over the last week that it would appear that Obama would be our next President and expressed the same sentiments that you state above were he to be elected. I wish him well.

As far as the heading of this thread, Policy wise,I don't think anyone can answer that question at this point. Perhaps a year from now someone should post a thread that asks, How Has Pres. Obama Changed Your Life?

Thanks for your comments.  You might find this brief article of interest.  It specifically addresses concerns about whether Barack Obama would continue America's traditional support of Israel and other policies:

  Obama Must Reassure Israel's Friends

Very best wishes,

I wish President to be Obama godspeed.  It will be as he said above. His road to the Presidency was long and hard.

He prevailed. He was organized. He is all business.  And as the now infamous tape included (not reported) he has steel in his spine.

The gift he has is the ability to appeal to the people.  He will be able to move the people to action.  He projects good will,  and  appears to have the ability to listen to countervailing viewpoints.  At the same time he will be a firm decision maker.

His election was welcomed by peoples across the Globe.  A new sense of hope that the US will be a just and cooperative global partner.  Working for the good of all.

People everywhere want the US to once more become the beacon of hope for the world.   And to continue to be THE leader of free nations.

Because to do so is in our national fabric.  And we have always accepted that responsibility.

May God shine his blessings upon Obama,  and upon the United States of America.

<<I'm forced to EAT CROW! And no doubt the bitter taste will remain for about four years!>>

I know how you feel.  I turned 18 in 1997 and i'm a Democrat.  So this is the first time my candidate has won  since i've been old enough to vote.  I ate crow in 2000 and 2004.  It's nice not to have that taste for once :)  Sadly the win is bitter sweet for many of us in California as proposition 8 has passed.  Thus IMO the people have elected to write discrimination into the state's constitution.  This damage will take a long time to reverse.

<<God Bless the Will of the People. I didn't vote for President Elect Obama, but he is MY president now, and pray God will guide and protect him. As an American I will respect his office.>>

The people made there choice with a resounding margin in both the popular vote and the electoral college.  In these times I sincerely hope we made the right one.

<<He said "it might take longer than one term" to complete what he wants to do. I thought, this guy is campaigning for his second term before he begun his first!>>

That line struck me too as an odd thing to put in his acceptance speech.  But I chose to view it as a message of the reality of the situation.  Obama's supporters can't just get complacent because Barack's on the case.  The problems with the economy and with terrorism that the next president faces are likely to continue into the next four years.  We need to remember that and we need to remember that we are in this for the long haul.

But it does have an air of making excuses now for an incomplete job in the future.  I'm no sure I would have put it in my speech.

He said something in his speech last night that caught me funny. He said "it might take longer than one term" to complete what he wants to do$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

You caught that also? They say the first thing a newly elected person does is began his re-election campaign.

Hopefully he meant that it has taken 25-30 years to get in the shape we are in now and it will take a few years to get back on track. We can't pay off a bazillion dollars of debt with a raffle. We have to grow out of it. We are a "now" generation and expect cures overnight. Ain't gonna happen ya betcha.
