»»Chaya:   Thus you didn't mean that everything could be found in the Bible.  I have no problem with this variance.

»»You:    I wouldn't put it that way. I believe everything can be found in the Bible, but it requires knowledge and faith, not knowledge alone.
Everything can be found in the Bible, huh?  My coffee maker quit working.  Where in the Bible can I find how to fix it?

You're a smart guy Gary, I'm sure you know what I meant by that statement.

I had a writing professor once that advised the class to "think through what you're writing."  It was good advice. «g»

I'm sure you know what I meant by that statement.

Yet I have seen many Christians post the words, “Everything can be found in the Bible.”

Just to clarify it for me, could you explain just what a Christian means when they make this statement?

I had a writing professor once that advised the class to "think through what you're writing."  It was good advice.

If I was writing a thesis or report, that would be great advice. In the case at hand, I believe the one I was writing to is an intelligent individual who wouldn't have a problem understanding what I meant, apparently, she understood it well enough. You are the only one who questioned it. Common sense says you can't look in the Bible to find the correct timing of a 302 ci engine, or troubleshooting tips for a coffee pot, so common sense would also tell you that is not what was meant by the statement. To answer your first question, it probably blew a fuse, which is easily replaceable, and if it's not the fuse, you'd be better off to buy another coffee maker. Or perhaps, you're drinking too much coffee.

Everything we need to know pertaining to God.

How does this explanation not contradict with the words of James?

James 1: 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

If you read my original comment, you would see that I said knowledge of the Bible leaves unanswered questions, faith leads us to the answers to those questions. Basically what I'm saying is that all the knowledge we need of the Bible, is in the Bible, without faith, one can go no further. As far as the scripture from James, without faith, one would not ask God for anything, so the statements aren't contradictory. Furthermore, wisdom and knowledge are two different things. One can have knowledge, and be dumber than a bag of hammers. Wisdom is knowing what to do with the knowledge one has.

You asked a question, I answered it, what more do you want? If you wish to discuss something in more detail then spit it out, otherwise, I don't know what you're getting at.

Let us see. I asked a question. You answered. Then I said I was no longer going to participate in the discussion because I have been on this ride before.

So, I would say I asked the question in hopes that I might receive an answer that did not depend on circular reasoning to justify.

I told you twice I getting off the ride. I did try to walk away from the conversation, did I not?

I don't think it depends on circular reasoning, I think it depends on faith, which I had already stated when you asked the question. Reasoning will only bring more confusion when it comes to the Bible. Some things have to be accepted on faith, or not accepted on lack of faith, but faith is the key.

I told you twice I getting off the ride. I did try to walk away from the conversation, did I not?

I knew some guys in school that would do that. They would pick a fight between two groups of people, and then sit back and watch them beat each other senseless.
