RATE IT: ADAM LAMBERT'S AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS PERFORMANCE

He may have finished in second place on 'American Idol,' but Adam Lambert was #1 in the hearts of millions who believe that he is a superstar in the making.

Lambert emerged from the 'Idol' shadow and onto the mainstream music spotlight at the American Music Awards -- and what a coming out party it was: An S&M-themed, sexually charged performance of the title track off of his new CD, 'For Your Entertainment,' that included Lambert fondling a female dancer, kissing an androgynous band mate and shoving a male dancer's face in his crotch.  Find out more.

The controversial show closer has generated an outcry of complaints -- no less than 1,500 calls flooded ABC, the network which broadcasted the program, to complain about the performance.

For his part, Lambert defended his performance during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, remarking that "We're in 2009; it's time to take risks, be a little more brave, time to open people's eyes and if it offends them, then maybe I'm not for them. My goal was not to piss people off, it was to promote freedom of expression and artistic freedom."

During an AP interview held a few days prior to the show, Lambert also indicated that "there are a lot of double standards," adding that "we've seen female pop and rock performers do that for the last 10 years. They've been very provocative, owning their power and sexuality. You just don't see men doing it very often. And I'm hoping to break down that double standard with this number.''

What did you think of Adam's performance?  Did you enjoy it, or did you feel that it crossed the line of good taste for broadcast television?  Why or why not?

Do you agree with Adam's remarks that there is a double standard within the industry when it comes to these provocative performances?  Do you believe that female performers such as Britney or Madonna would have been subject to this same scrutiny?

I think it was pretty edgy, but no worse than Madonna's shocking stage antics of bondage, grinding and such.  Now what I found disappointing was I didn't think musically he sounds as good as he did on 'Idol.'   Maybe he was trying to shock more than just rock fans.

I thought he sounded really off last night... I know they had some technical issues but I don't think that is what made him sound off pitch!  I think the difference with Madonna is she has earned the right to do pretty much what she wants, she is Madonna and most people expect outrageous and sexual from her.  Adam chose to do this very early in his career.... I think he could have really hurt his career by being too out there too soon!

If this is what you call "music"...then, I don't want any part of it. I cannot believe that the producers would even allow such trash. I do think Adam did it for the shock leading to be an "attention" getter. I hope his stardom falls as fast as it rose...it was the worst performance I have ever seen!

I saw MAYBE 20 minutes of AMA in the process of channel surfing during another show's commercials.
What I did see during the 'dancing<?>' was more like 'jerking' movements, that with how the 'entourage'
moves behind them it often looks like a whole lot of sexual inuendo.  Do it at a concert that people are
paying and though I may call it gross, the people did pay to see it so it flies.  On TV where even "tots"
can see it ... and no I am not a prude ... and it may be going a bit too far, even if it does not go beyond
the "gestapo's" --- errrrrrrr --- the FCC's guidelines.

And what they call 'music' now-a-days I have trouble understanding in general as the 'singers / wailers'
sound like they are squeezing their noses, forcing their voices to a falsetto level, cutting off words syllables,
'wobbling' their voiceboxes, what-have-you ... ... ... only because we do have different voice boxes do some
songs sound like they MAY be from someone different.

UGH

You know, I am a pretty easy going person and not uptight at all.

But I am also a mother of 6 who range from 21 to 10 many of them boys and I am

seeing the changes in how society portrays sex and the disassociated mentality that

its just fun and we are all just objects and "playthings'

Well, I dont like it. You are turning our children and young men into pigs .!!!

I shouldnt have to spend every cotton pikin day trying to undo the dammage  that the media has

done to my childrens pshycie withou my permission or theirs for that matter. !!

Dangit, When will the TV execs get off the greed train and once again protect our youth from this

garbage being forced on us for what ??????????????? ratings??????????

to hell with your ratings, lets see how they are when all us parents who buy the tvs and pay for

internet and satelite service do the right thing and quit paying .Heck, we could all use the extra couple hundred bucks

a month right now just to pay bills. So lets go back to the way it used to be even if its just for a little while. You

may be surprised at what you learn about your kids when you actuall have to spend time with them.

Time to turn the "bad babysitter" OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!

hoo rah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just gotten more repulsive. I don't really think he is important
enough to consider. His AMA performance, F.

I think he gave a great performance that was very theatrical and yes more so than some of the more boring performances that were on the show that night and no it did not cross the line .I do not think anybody would be saying anything but good things about Adam's performance if he had not come out as a gay male.
I do most definitely do feel like there are double standards out there and it has been that way for a very long time and no we would not be having this controversy if it were Madonna,Britney,Beyonce,Lady Gaga,50 cent,Snoop Dog,Eminem or so many others that are out there in many ways.
We are supposed to be a free country but by some of the comments that have been put out there it is free unless you are a gay male.
There have been so many performances with women putting both men's and women's crotches in the viewers faces as well as anyone in the front rows probably got a lot more than the viewers did.
Everyone could do nothing but praise Adam but when it came out that he was gay the comments changed and so many were and are overly critical of anything he says and does.
Lets face it performers that walk around with their pants at their knee's,grabbing their crotch throughout their performance, promoting drugs and violence, simulating blood all over the front of their body, and so much more well where is the outcry over all of these performances that have been going on for decades?.
Let's just give Adam credit for his amazing voice and sit back and be entertained by his great performances and not just settle for so many of the fan favorites that win award after award when in most cases they do not deserve it over some of the other people that were in the category that they were in. So many of these repeat winners (excluding Michael Jackson who deserved every award he ever got and MORE!!!!) are so boring and if they could even hold a candle next to Adam then these award shows would not be so incredibly boring.

I was a huge fan of Adam Lambert when he was on Idol.   Now it seems he is trying to reenforce the opinion that a lot of people have already of the majority of gay men as promisuous, not forming lasting, loving  relationships and not caring with whom they have sex.  That is not helping the cause of wanting the world to take them seriously.  I felt like I was watching a toned down version of a gay male porn film.  I don't see how he will appeal to anyone unless they are gay males that are into S & M.   There is another huge audience out there he will be missing.  He didn't show any of the talent I saw him display on Idol.  I no longer am a fan of his.  There are others out there more deserving of my money.  I feel sad about this because I so looked forward to his first performances.  Madonna and Britney are not gay so they were not flaunting their sexuality.  I was disgusted with that also.  Things like that are not entertaining.  You do not have to flaunt your sexuality.  Ellen Degeneres does not: she goes about her business and only discusses it when the subject comes up.  If you feel secure in your sexuality, you don't need to flaunt it.  I was very disappointed in Adam Lamberts performance like a lot of people.  He could have done something spectacular instead of something so cheesy.  He blew it.

I am amazed at all the press that this performance has gotten!  Lambert is a very theatrical entertainer.  That is what we all loved about him on Idol.  He does more than just sing a song.......he plays out the part!

I think Adam is also right, when he says that there are double standards.  I remember when Madonna first broke on the scene, and she did her "Like a Virgin" song in her white lace wedding dress, humping and grinding on the floor.  The audience did the same sucking of breath in horror as they did the other night, when Lambert shoved the dancers face into his groin.  Talk about Madonna lasted weeks, months, and she still is shocking audiences, even now.

Let's take the Madonna/Britney Christina  kiss.....OMG.....how did that get on the air????  Didn't we talk about that at the water cooler the next day?  And for months afterwards too.  I think it is an old stereotype that needs to be changed.  Why is it acceptable, to see 2 women together, kissing or acting out sex scenes, and when a man does that.......we suddenly all go Puritanical!

Rock stars have been doing this for years, Steven Tyler, Freddi Mercury stand out foremost in my mind.  Sexuality in music and music videos is what sells music.  Your parents hate it, so the kid can't wait to go out and buy it!  The Adam Lambert's of the world, rock the music industry from time to time, with performances like the one the other night.  These are the acts, that when you buy a ticket to one of their concerts, you know you are going to get your money's worth.  Alice Cooper and David Bowie did it for years, they didn't just sing, they performed, and their concerts were worth the ticket price each and every time.  I for one, would rather spend my hard earned money going to see a concert that entertained me, instead of watching 4 or 5 guys on stage with guitars regurgitating their music to listeners night after night after night.

I did not see the performance but there does seem to be a double standard.
Having said that, Michael Jackson grabbed his own crotch for years without an outcry.

Today, a lot of people don't like my right to worship God and can have Him removed from most places but I am to accept  what Adam was displaying on public television as his right to expressing himself. Where is this country going to? Why does he have to express this behavior to the public? Is it  everyone to accept this way of living today?

I was for Adam from the first time I heard him sing. After the AMA program I have to say he was one of the worst on the the awards. He thinks we are ready for an eye opener. What I saw was sexual movements that were closer to porn then anything else. There are channels on TV for that type of entertainment so younger children will not beable to watch
