My Classic CS webmail, which I normally check once a day for incorrect spam, suddenly, after a routine pw change, will not stay signed in/remember pw.    I have to feed it the pw daily.   (it remembers screen name)  Any ideas?    I cleared some cookies.   I use IE for the mail, Firefox for this, to avoid any conflicts.   Not a huge problem, just a pain.
Thanks.

Thanks, not sure yet whether problem is at AOL or in my browser, but since no one else seems to have, I suspect the browser.    I use IE for the mail, and Firefox for this to avoid "cookie confusion", and I don't know a whole lot about IE password handling.  (I only use IE when I have to)  I think next i will delete all IE passwords and see if that fixes.

I'm not sure if my problem is related but as of yesterday afternoon (Monday, October 26th), I have been getting password errors in both Eudora and MailWasher when attempting to retrieve my mail. I have NOT changed my password or made any other changes to my mail setttings--I don't have any problem accessing the Compuserver/AOL mail at webmail.compuserve.com . I don't know why my password isn't being recognized by the system (Eudora is set to "remember password") and the problem is getting annoying.

I am in the midst of emailing marcelbmbecker@aol.com about the problem and I'll post back if I receive a response.

Just thought I'd post to let you know that this may not be just your problem...'-}}

Thanks, today, Outlook Express flashed up the password screen, but it was filled in, so I just clicked enter.    It has done that from time to time in the past.

Did a search; failure of IE 8 Autocomplete is all over the place, and no one has a solution that seems to work, judging from the comments.    I think MS will have to fix it.

FYI, I went into Regedit to try this, and it does not apply to IE 8.      The "Storage 2" line is not available, and the IE section has different items than shown.      I fear MS is going to have to come up with a fix.
Thanks for the lead anyway, it led to a bunch of blogs on this widespread problem.
It looks as if the only fix right now is "Advanced; reset", which wipes all settings, including good ones.

This afternoon, it looks like it is fixed!     I cannot tell if I really did anything.      I changed "Intelliforms ;ask user" from 0 to 1 yesterday, but it is back to 0, however, Storage 2 has appeared, weird!

Hey Brad...sorry it took me so long to get back--couldn't remember which forum I'd posted in...'-}}

From reading your other posts, it looks like you were able to fix your problem and it sounds completely different from my password problem with MailWasher and Eudora...

I just wanted to let you know that Marcel ( marcelbmbecker@aol.com ) is very responsive to questions/problems--I did put "Classic User" in my subject line which I think may have helped and I'd suggest adding that to any email you might send to him. Within an hour (or less) of emailing him about my password problem, I received a reply from him that they (Compuserve/AOL) had not been mucking about with the system but that he would look into the problem--I had thought that perhaps it was just a random glitch but when it happened again on the following day (Tuesday 10/27) I decided to report it and as is usual with this sort of thing, having reported the problem, the system gods got scared and it fixed itself...'-}}

The current problem is the redesign they've made to the webmail.compuserve.com login page where they'd added the text "email or screen name" and "password" in the data entry fields. If you haven't set your browser (Firefox in my case) to remember passwords it looks fine but if you do have remember passwords set, the text overlays the actual userid (email addy or screen name) and password making things essentially unreadable but one can successfully login so it's not that big a deal.

I emailed a couple of screen shots to Marcel and he replied back immediately that they are aware of the problem and a fix is in the works...

Terrie, thanks for getting back.   There are 2 problems in the thread.
1.      IE 8 just will not remember passwords all the time, does remember some of the time.   I still have the problem, signing in to webmail.
2.      Password problems in mail clients.    I never had the problem, just was surprised to get the PW screen.

I am leery about using Firefox to check webmail, as I worry about cookie conflict with this forum login.
Will see what develops.

Brad

I only use IE if I absolutely, postively have to...ugh...'-}}

>>I am leery about using Firefox to check webmail, as I worry about cookie conflict with this forum login.

Actually, it's interesting...I used to use Netscape7.2 (what can I say...I still like it...'-}}) for forum access and then Firefox for webmail--I have both Firefox2 and Firefox3.5 on my system because when FF3 came out, there were plug-ins I had that didn't work in FF3 and I needed them for some things I was working on so I installed FF3 separately with a modified shortcut so that it wouldn't overlay the FF2 shortcut.

Anyway over the last week or so, I have used FF (I'm using FF2 now but I tried it with FF3.5 and it didn't make any difference) to check my webmail and to come into the forum and I have not had any problems with conflicting cookies BUT I have Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies set to "keep until: I close Firefox" and I use an add-on CSLite to control cookies keeping the ones I want--for example my bank and a few others--and I don't know if that makes a difference.

I sign into the forums with my (classic) alpha userid but my forum id is my old cserve addy--remember when we were able to get that back during the conversion to the new system? So maybe that's why I can use FF for both...

Soooo...I'd suggest trying Firefox for both webmail and the forums and see what happens...

Just tried something in FF2 (worked the same in FF3.5)...if I login to webmail.compuserve.com and then, using a bookmark, access this forum, I am not automatically logged into the forum but have to click on "log in" and it didn't display the login screen but automatically picked up my webmail login--classic alpha email address/password which is also my forum login although the forum id is based on my classic numeric userid.

However, if I login to webmail using my other compuserve.com email address/password (I signed up for another compuserve.com account when we were allowed to do that) and then, using a bookmark, came into this forum, I wasn't logged in BUT when I did click on the "log in" on the forum home page, it automatically logged me in using my other compuserve.com email account.

So there can be a "conflict" (of sorts) with the cookies--if you only have one compuserve.com addy and your forum userid is connected (either it's the same as your compuserve.com id or it's the classic numeric forum id linked during the conversion process), then you shouldn't have any problems...

PS...just realized something interesting...for some reason, the setting for my forum name is back to just my numeric id rather than "Terrie/74727.3164"...not sure why/how that happened...it's not a big deal but just sort of odd...'-}}

Terrie, at the moment, looks like it works, switching between webmail and community.
The acid test; will it keep working, stay tuned.

Terrie, looks to be working, Firefox remembers PW, and moves over to forum OK.
Interesting side light, when going in to webmail, there is a quick pop-up "Logging out of AOL" before Compuserve screen shows.
