I notice the last discussion on OneNote took place in July 2007. Does that mean users have had no problem with OneNote and hence do not need any help, or is OneNote not a popular program ?

I honestly do not know of anyone who uses it, personally...

Hi,

I do use it (in sync with my PDA) or at least I used to use it a lot, until some update broke syncing with the PDA. But no, it's not a popular program.

Kind regards

Hans

I've never understood what it was for.

My installation of Office 2007 Pro (OEM) doesn't seem to have it installed.  I just visited the OneNote site at Microsoft, and I'm not sure I really understand what it is, other than maybe a scratch pad that lets you put cuttings from other Microsoft applications.  I can't really see how I would use this in my real life.  It looks like one of those things I'd play with for an hour or so, and never use again.

>>maybe a scratch pad

not far off the mark, methinks.

be aware, OneNote has a following of rabid users.

as best I can encapsulate its 'intent' - OneNote is a collection of 'pointers' to 'objects' - all 'sorted' in a 'file' - and searchable (so far as a graphic is 'searchable'....) -

not really a database, more a "information organizer" - well, at least until MS decides to not upgrade it for their latest OS,
then all the users will be wailing and moaning for files of all their important / irreplaceable "data"

Yes, you do.  Me.  I find it really useful.  Wish it were better supported.

It is an awesomely useful program for organizing all the little bits of varied information that enter your life.
For example move invoices from shopping I do on line into one of its folders so that I can locate them easily when it is time to reorder.  I can't begin to tell you all the ways it is useful  Got to try it yourself.

I know several people that use it and are very fond of it.

actually I try to avoid putting everything in one place.  it winds up like a junk drawer - can't find what I'm looking for . . . .

That's the point.  You can easily find and organize all that misc. stuff with One Note.

well, everyone has their own madness to their methods <g>

I do it "the old fashion way" - directories, sub-directories, individual pst files, etc.
it works best for me as a lot of what I do is 'project' oriented - so when it's done, it's done, burned to CD, archived and deleted from the pc.
