This is somewhat minor and perhaps just of interest.  I use Office 2007 on Windows XP Home.  Occasionally I use what was I think previously called the Autocomplete function, mainly when it offers to put in month and day names, e.g. Word will off to complete "Wednesday" if I type "wedn".  When working on a new document, created as Word 2003, I noticed the function wasn't working.  After a lot of messing with various options all to no avail, I realised the only thing that had changed was that I was viewing two docs using the "side by side" option from the View tab on the Ribbon.  If I switched that off, then the autocomplete started working again.  Various other combinations of "restore" or "maximise" inividual document windows also caused it to stop working.

I can't see that this behaviour should be by design and can only presume therefore it's just a rather strange bug.

Bryan

Hi Bryan,

Yes, indeed, no suggestions are made in side-by-side view. I never noticed it.

Bryan --

FWIW, allow me to suggest a "middle ground" between "design" and "strange bug".

Could it be that various combinations of multiple documents on screen, and/or max/min size or position proved more challenging to track on screen, for purposes of the occasional auto-complete, that the functional shortcoming was not considered worth the extra programming effort to make the auto-complete truly robust.

Best regards,  4merCL
