Since I never started a thread on Sarah Palin before...I thought...what the heck...

I'm surprised the usual Palin thread maker(s) missed this one....

McCain: Palin 'Energized Our Party'
Appearing on State of the Union, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) defended his former running mate Sarah Palin, against the criticism of his former campaign manager Steve Schmidt. "There are fundamental facts ... that cannot be denied," McCain adds. "When we selected or asked Sarah Palin to be my running mate, it energized our party. We were ahead in the polls, until the stock market crashed. And she still is a formidable force in the Republican Party, and I have great affection for her."

McCain.  Kleefeld's the reporter,  McCain's the story and if anyone believes "John likes Sarah" there's another good one about "Nancy Reagan liked Don Regan."   Or LBJ was crazy about Robert Kennedy.

Gary --

>>why would John McCain lie? What purpose does it serve?<<

In the past few days, I read (can't remember offhand where) about McCain's attempts to patch up his relations with the conservative wing of the party.  He's already facing a potential primary challenge from the right back home in Arizona; and he's never been especially popular with his more conservative colleagues in his party.  Not trashing Sarah Palin (as many of his campaign staff have been doing) is one way to rebuild those bridges.

The other thing to consider is that for better or worse, Palin was his decision - and even though it was a blunder of disastrous proportions in a campaign full of 'em, McCain may be reluctant to admit it.

Do you honestly think that McCain, as long as he's breathing or in elected office, would publicly announce that he made a mistake in picking Palin? Or that Palin is not qualified to be VP or POTUS? Talk about verifying yourself as incompetent, that would take the cake! McCain will only show his colors if he doesn't support Palin if she chooses to run in the next Republican Presidential Primaries. If he chose her before as being the best possible VP nominee, not supporting her would be proof of his blunder. McCain has been asked countless times if he would support Palin in a Presidential primary and he answered that he would wait and see who the other Republicans are. Without a doubt McCain has serious misgivings about Palin.

No more than the guy who mentioned this....."She seems to have a compelling life story. Obviously, she's a fine mother and an up-and-coming public servant. My sense is that she subscribes to John McCain's agenda." http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/08/30/60minutes/main4400811.shtml

Now Jim...do you think Palin has a complelling life story? Do you think she is an up and coming public servant?

I don't believe Senator McCain would campaign for a Sarah Palin run for President...if that's what you're getting at. McCain was as honest as Obama.

McCain is an honorable man, he disagrees with Obama in a gentlemanly way. Come on....... Beating up on his VP pick, while he is in office, would only show off his incompetence!

McCain was honest in his assessment of Sarah Palin. He hit it on the nail. She did her share of engergizing...they were ahead in the polls and she is undeniably a formidabe force in the Republican party. These are undeniable facts. What part of his statement do you find false? Where did he lie?

"There are fundamental facts ... that cannot be denied," McCain adds. "When we selected or asked Sarah Palin to be my running mate, it energized our party. I believe John McCain is a man of character...and he doesn't judge Palin negatively in public like the whacky Palin bashers do. Both McCain and Obama spoke pleasantly about Palin because they are men of character.
