Has Nancy Pelosi crafted a national health reform bill that will make the cut? The Associated Press describes the bill in some detail:
The bill would require nearly everyone by 2013 to sign up through their employer, a government program or a new kind of purchasing pool called an exchange. Tax credits would be available for most of those buying coverage through the exchange. They would have the option of picking a new government plan or private insurance.
During the transition years from 2010-2013, a temporary government program would help people turned down by private insurers because of medical problems, lawmakers said. After that, insurers no longer could refuse to provide coverage to the sick, nor could they charge more because of poor health of the insured. See this link for more
Pelosi hopes to usher the bill through a House vote by Veterans Day, November 11th.
But there are many obstacles to overcome. No Republicans are expected to support the bill. Additionally, there are large differences in the House bill and the legislation under consideration in the Senate:
Do you think Pelosi can get the bill passed by Veterans Day?
Will the Senate sign off on similar legislation?
President Obama would like to see a bill on his desk before year's end. Do you think he'll get it?
What is your opinion on the bill?
