It was there yesterday! How can I get it back? All my settings are set to on but no Norton toolbar and my log-ins and cards are not working. The Norton toolbar isn't even listed under the View option. I'm running Firefox 3.5.3 and NIS 2010.

I just checked my version and I do have the newest one:  No. 17.1.0.14

I'm extremely sorry to hear that. I just added this to my post about the version upgrade:

PS 10/28/09 --- Update temporarily withdrawn because FireFox Users found a major bug.

Here's a link to the thread on the Norton Forums. I think there is a workaround by disabling something but you can be sure they will announce the revision there and I'll certainly watch for it.

Helen

There are two workarounds in that thread now -- go into the part of FIrefox that controls add-ons and disable all the Norton ones. Having no experience of Firefox I can't say anything more about that nor do I know what if anything of importance is inactive as a result. Since it seems to be to do with the Norton Toolbar it may be that you just lose the green flags for non-risky website sort of things.

The other, if you want to try it, is the most certain and that is to uninstall NIS 2010 (users have said using the Norton Removal Tool but don't do this if you have any other Norton applications installed since it removes everything Norton without selections, including things like GHOST and I'm not sure that it is necessary) and then reinstall NIS 2010.

If you have the installation disk you could use this and let it update because I understand that the offending update has been removed from the liveupdate servers or you can download this 81MB file and install that since it is the .136 version or should be:

New NIS 2010: Click on this link NIS 2010

Just download it using the Save option and then double click it to run it and you should be back to where you were.

I think I'll wait for the fix. I just hope it comes soon. I'll go back to IE for now.

I still haven't downloaded the new NIS2010 patch for my laptop (netbook). Should I wait for the new fix? I'm running IE8 on the laptop.

Keep an eye on the thread in the Norton Forums. Here's a link to a message from Tim saying that he hopes to post news today:

Re: Norton Toolbar disappears after applying 17.1.0.14 patch

I'll be watching too.

Tim kept his promise and posted last night:

Re: Norton Toolbar disappears after applying 17.1.0.14 patch

but it means a delay since they have found some code problems and are determined to test and retest before releasing again.

Hopefully next week.

I appreciate the honest way they tell us things.
