Hi! My dad, who has a home business, recently bought an internet faxing system, called, "Ventafax." Have any of you had experience with this company before? It sounds good, yet we have questions about how honest a company they may be. First, dad paid the trial fee. Then he was told he must pay a bit more, and he didn't like being surprised like that. But realize some businesses may use techniques like that to persuade people to pay the full price for things. I found one address on the Ventafax site: Regsoft.com Inc.; 10820 Abbots Bridge Road, Suite 220; Duluth, GA 30097. I looked up this business in the online yellow pages, and found no listing for the fax company at this address; instead, all I found was a listing for Kani House at that address, and it was listed as being under the category of "asian -Middle Eastern restaurants." Strange that it's so hard to find clear evidence that there is a valid address for this Ventafax company. My dad already paid about $100 to them, and is presently trying to decide whether to pay the additional (about $80) they told him he needs to pay to get full activation of the program. Should he go ahead and pay this $80 (since he may not be able to get the amount he already paid ($100) back from them, anyhow - if they are crooks? What is your opinion on this? My dad used to use Winfax pro fax program, but has lost the original installation disk (if there ever was any), and also the company that produced it is no longer selling it. I have looked up on the subject and found that there's sites that offer to help with winfax pro problems, for a fee, so I've wondered if that might be worth considering trying out. He does have a lot of original folders from the winfax pro 10.0 copied onto a disk, but I haven't been able to figure out how to use them to reinstall the program on his other computer (for purpose of first seeing if it is possible to find a way to reinstall it before trying to reinstall in on the computer he's wanting to be using it on, and which is connected to his printer. I will be waiting for any advice I can get on this. Thanks.
Bye.

Debby

Ventafax is not getting very good reviews (do a Google search on "Ventafax reviews" to see what people have to say about it).  I think your dad's getting scammed, personally.  The trial period is supposed to be free and the software is supposed to cost $49.95 for home use and $99 for the business version.

Your dad could buy an all-in-one printer/scanner/fax for about what he's paid for that program.  I recently bought a Canon Pixma MX330 for just a little more than that on sale.

WinFax Pro won't work with Windows XP, at least not in my experience, so if that's what operating system your dad has it's not worth trying to find the disks.  Windows XP has built-in fax capabilities (limited, but usable).  The fax capability isn't installed automatically--you'll have to add it with your XP installation disks.  Here's an article from Microsoft that explains it.

Hi! Thank you very much for your advice and opinions! I will check up a bit more, for sake of being best able to convince him to give up on the program.

I hope everything works out OK.  Your father might try asking for his money back, or getting his credit card company to reverse the charges.
