can't find make a folder/copy

In Windows XP when I open My computer, on the left side of the screen is the ability of making a new folder, moving a directory or file, or copying a file from one place to another. I find this missing and wonder if there is any way to start replicating the same screen of Windows XP in Windows 7 ?

Secondly in Xp when I wish to create a directory and copy many different files into this directory, it stays on the screen. When I wish to copy files from drive F: to drive C:, the location where I want the files to go to isn't available after I copy the first file and I must search on drive C: the folder where the file should go. I am working in Windows 7 Live Photo Gallery and after I correct a jpg file, I have to also go back into drive C: and find the folder where the jpg file should go to. Is there any way of correcting these annoying problems ?

Is there any ways to get the classic look like in XP into Windows 7 ?

Right-click on the right side - the goods are in the Context Menu...

Single panel file managers are always trouble for Copy/Move. Either open TWO of them, one Source and one Target, or go through the machinations you did...

Thank you for clarifying what the original poster wanted. I'm aware of what he was asking, as I'm equally aware of the content of your reply. I just thought it would be helpful to offer alternatives that he may not be aware of and which he may find useful rather than simply telling him it can't be done.

It's just a customized view of Windows Explorer. From Windows Explorer select Organize > Layout > Navigation pane (see attached). The navigation pane will give you a folder tree on the left allowing for easier copying/moving of folder/files.

If you enable the Menu bar too, you'll have access to the old Copy/Move to Folder option under Edit. If you don't want the menu bar to take up screen real estate, simply pressing the Alt key will bring out the menu bar too.

Irwin,

I followed your suggestions and the Windows Explorer looks like your jpg file however I do have a few hiccups.

Although I checked the menu bar in organize, I only see the menu bar by pressing the alt key, otherwise it isn't there.
I came across a program for Windows 7 called copyto_moveto from somewhere and it was originally for Vista but it said it would work in Windows 7 and it does. But here is another problem. I see the tree on the left side, I open a folder in the center pane, it lists all the jpg files in detail and when I click the file I get in the third pane a sunflower icon. If I click on the sunflower icon, it then opens up the jpg file. How do I get rid of the sunflower and see the jpg file visually without having to click on the sunflower to open the file.

I now can right click on the file and I can either move or copy the file to a destination which I didn't try yet. I am glad that Windows 7 is on a different drive so I can do experiments.

I came across a interesting website called howtogeek.com. They have all kinds of mini programs to do many things. Visit them.

Don't have enough experience with W7 to tell you why, maybe others can jump in. One thing to try is when the menu bar is present, right click on it and see lock/unlocking makes a difference.

For me the JPG appears on the preview (right) pane when a file is selected. Is the sunflower the icon for the default app for viewing JPG files. Try optimizing the folder for pictures (right click on folder > properties > customize). Can you try using another app as default for JPG such as Irfanview (with the open option)?

Getting the menu bar is simple. Click on organize, the layout, then menu bar.

I did that but it doesn't hold. It disappears and I have to press the alt key to get back the menu bar. Will try Irwins idea tonight.
