Can Our Sea Otters Be Saved?

America's Fish & Wildlife Service has now designated more than fifteen hundred square miles of Alaskan wilderness as a protected habitat of the endangered sea otter.  How concerned do you think we should be about whether the sea otter survives in Alaska's wilderness areas?

Do you anticipate more -- or less -- protection of America's endangered species during the coming years of President Barack Obama's administration, as specifically compared to the eight years of former President George W. Bush's administration?

How important do you think former Vice President Dick Cheney was in formulating American policy toward endangered species during this decade?

Important: Sea otters keep kelp forests healthy by eating animals that graze on kelp.

Spike in dead sea otters catches wildlife officials' attention

Port Angeles, Washington:  A recent spike in dead sea otter sightings has caught the attention of wildlife officials, but they say that the 12 sightings on the Washington coast in the past month could simply be the result of more witnesses....

And "Environmental groups say it's about time for federal agencies to admit that a sea otter relocation program has failed and to repeal a "no otter zone" along the Southern California coastline - an alleged concession to the oil and shellfish industries," according to this week's Courthouse News Service.
