OMG, it's November - eeeep! I don't know about you, but I HAVE to get cracking if I'm to finish my SFD by the end of the year. So again, it's nose to the grind-stone for me, writing every day. And, because I think I need a bit of an extra push, I'll aim to finish a scene a day. We'll see how that goes. <gulp>

What about you? Anyone joining in with NaNo? Did those of you who attended Surrey come back with a whole bunch of ideas you need to start work on?

Let me know what your goals are this November - so I can make sure you stick to them. <eg>

Here I am, coming out of hiding after months away!  I missed this place.

Let's see if I can set a realistic goal.

I would like to:

1. Do an initial edit of the three chapters I wrote this month to make sure that they cohere with the full story arc
2. Write two more new chapters.

That seems doable!

Looks like I will not be able to NaNoWriMo - going to have to do considerable travel in November. So I will focus on more consolidation for this month, and take any new material as gravy.

Based on what I learned in October, I will set a 'must-do' goal:

* Edit 'Just Folks?' (aka Chapter 2) so that it fits into the new plot. The end product is to be a best effort edit - editing for everything.

and a 'hope-to-do' goal:

* Same process for 'The Chosen One' (aka Chapter 3). The first half of this chapter is a good shape and fits the new plot; the second half peters out, and will require heavy editing and a fair amount of new material.

Hey, the best news is that I have a very clear idea of what I need to do!!

Hear, hear! We'll see if NaNo gives me that extra push... So, writing every day, and if not writing, then I should be typing what's already written!

Rachel,

Ah November. Thirty days with very little on the calendar to take me out of the house--so far. <g> Here's the goals:

Write something every day--as much on WIP as possible

Start working of a new devotional--A Christmas Walk (there are many people asking for it and they haven't read the entire Easter one yet. <vbg>)

Do the Nov X whatever it is

Newsletter (next to last--I turn it over to someone else in January--Yeah!)

I hear that! My goal:

Write a scene everday and edit the previous one to finish the rewrite of my ending.

Oh, and stay away from all the dessert my dad makes while visiting for Thanksgiving/twins birthday ;-)

Hi Rachel,

after October was a messed up month, I am still about to finish Task Group. And if we are lucky, a publisher buys Bloody Penance which would be the first official Brendt&Brendt, means, written together with my wife.

Hi Rachel,

I'm hoping to finish NaNo this year, as long as the wrists hold up and the ideas keep flowing *g*. Looking at the bigger picture (the second draft of the WIP, which has undergone so many changes that it's basically back to first draft *sigh*), I hope to get back in the habit of writing daily so come December I can work on that piece.

Good luck with your SFD!

Kathy

I would like to say that I will be inspired by nano and write at least 30k, however I don't see that happening.  I have a 7 month old and the only time I can really write is after he goes to bed.  By which time I am often so tired that I stare at the computer screen drooling until my hubby sends me to bed.  Realistically I want to write something each day, and if I can do that maybe I can hit 10k.

Hi Rachel,

I think for November I will attempt to write another chapter for my WIP Sabine, and to edit one chapter for Catriona which I want to put up in the workshop once I've done some more criting. I'll also participate in the November X.

Goals?   Hmmm, this helped before, (setting goals)... so lets see.....

Under this light of the Full Moon, I set my goals for Novermber to be:

1.  1651:  Get 21 year old King Charles into and out of Hubbal Grange in at least rough form.

2.  1666;  Add some setting and more internals and movement of characters to 'Lizards Of Whitehall' scene from my October Writers' Exercise.

3.  1670:  Rough introduction of Charles to the foal 'Blue Cap'.... later his race horse.  Iwhat the heck do I know about horses?   NOTHING!)

4.  Participate in November Exercise, hoping one of the above three can be part of it.

5.  Participate in the November Houseparty if there is one.

6.  Supposed to go to Disneyland Nov 21

7.  Do the 'Thanksgiving thing' at home with family.  (Nov 26 to 29- reminding myself of dates here).

Hi Rachel,

November - oh well. November is November and that makes it a special month, for
(a) it's the month after Surrey, which reminds me to check in here and say hi to everyone and reminds me of all the things that I want to do better in my writing,
(b) it's the near to last month in the year, which reminds me that I'm threatened to fail my new-year's good intentions once more (finish a first draft, that was), and
(c) it's nanowrimo - and that, obviously, is the solution. At least to (b).

So, here it stands:
(a) HI THERE !!!!  (I hope to be hanging around a little bit longer this time around)
(b) FINISH THAT DARN THING (in November and maybe a little bit of December), at least in sh*tty first draft stage
(c) adding 50k - meaning 50.000 words - meaning about 200 pages to that story - I hope that should carry me past the finish line.

Doesn't sound too bad for someone who's otherwise pretty good at NOT getting her act together ...
But fine. Nanowrimo it is, and my Vikings are calling ;-) .

A wonderful and happy November to you ;-)

Ute

Hi Rachel, it's simple - finish the scenes I didn't get to last month

The Carly police scene/s
The first time sex scene

And finish the fan fic story

Plus all the usual editing etc for the magazine.
Please mistress - start cracking the whip. I need it.

November, UGH!  Historically, this is my most unproductive month what with thanksgiving, christmas shopping and planning the annual christmas trip to vermont.  I am at that stage however, where the story is just coming together and I can't stop thinking about it and the characters have come off the page and become "real" to me.  I am just going to have to stay up until the "wee sma's" and get it all out on paper.  Goals for this month:

finish the charleston segment of my wip

start filling in the gaps between scenes in the first section and get it to my unofficial editor (dad).

pray that my very religious mother isn't too scandalized by the almost rape i just finished writing.  I can hear her now:  "why can't you just write happy things, dear?" <g>

Grrah.  Forgot to give my November goals.  Still untangling the plot line, but I hope to be done with that by the end of this week (11/9).  Then it's back to the 1,000 words a day; perhaps by the end of the month, working my way up to 1,200 words.

Also, I'll have a conference to go to in the middle of the month, followed by the Thanksgiving holidays.  My goal there is not to let any of those things get in the way of either a.) meeting the daily word quota or b.) at least getting SOMETHING done.

Sticking with the KISS principle again.  House still on the market and a week of performance the first week of December which means rehearsals will intensify in the coming weeks.  So, I will be thrilled if I write another scene.  I'll take anything!

Hi Ron,

Well, even without NaNo I think you'll be more than busy with those goals; lots of work, but oh, I agree, it's great when you actually know what you need to do, instead of just bumbling around in the dark. <g> Good luck - I hope you have a very productive month.
