Tiki, my beautiful cat became gravely ill after eating part of an exterminated bug in my home. A bug exterminated by a professional. Watching her suffer as I did shattered my heart. While this wasn't my fault I ask that pet owners only hire exterminators who use safe pesticide. Safe for pets and kids. I don't want anyone else going through the anguish I have been through. I miss my baby tremendously every second.

I am very sorry to read of your loss.

Although eating a bug that has come in contact with pesticides may have been a factor, it is also possible that the bug itself may have contained poisons.  I am aware of a cat that died after eating a spider.  A number of bugs are poisonous to cats.

Still a loss weighs heavy on a person's heart.

Odds are the amount of poison in any give bug would not harm an animal as large as a cat. As the other poster said. Likely something else, such as the bug itself is harmful to the cat.. now that is very possible.

It is also possible that the insect carried a passenger (Bacteria or virus) and that made the cat sick.. There are several diseases that use bugs as a transmission vector both among Humans and other animals.

In this case the Doctor is your friend.

I do know cats like to nibble on bugs (good snack food) my pair will team up to catch a fly or moth more often than not,, The only insectide I use is Vapona (TM) and that is more or less harmless to larger animals like Cats.. Though again.. I would not wish to spend a lot of time breathing it in.  (Use great caution, wash hands after hanging a NO-PEST-STRIP and things like that.. This is serious stuff.. in quantity)

Actually my vet said that it doesn't take much to poison a cat.

I would agree with your vet, However with poisons (As opposed to toxins which are a whole different kettle of chemicals)

Body size counts

So what I can toss off without any problem might well kill you (I am 300 pounds)  A fraction of what could kill an average 150 pound person would kill a cat

The bug weighs less than an ounce
