Messages
When you enter the Messages page, the default view is the list of Unread Messages in the center column. The user may select another view in the Show discussions dropdown menu.
The left column, below the Google box, has links to any enabled chat rooms. Below that is a list of available folders. Clicking a folder will display all of that folder's discussions in the Show Discussions list. The New icon takes you to the message editor to create a new message.
Reading Messages:
Clicking a thread in the list opens that thread. Clicking a member name in the list (Newest By) opens the “send private message” window set To: that member.
Below the list are more icons. New: Create a new message. Mark Read: Marks all Unread messages as Read. This icon only appears if the view (Show Discussions dropdown) is set to Unread.
Above and below the messages are four icons on the left: To list: Goes back to the Discussion List New: Create new message page Prev: Previous thread Next: Next thread
The little number and arrow icons above and below on the right navigate inside the thread itself.
Below the messages is the Interest dropdown. Setting Interest to High allows one to return to a thread even if there are no unread messages. Setting Interest to Ignore prevents that thread from appearing on the Discussion List, unless Ignored are explicitly selected in the Show Discussions dropdown.
The Message list shows the folder and thread title. The Subscribe icon tags the thread title to be shown in the My Stuff area, and will indicate whenever a new message posts in that thread. Print: Brings up the whole thread in a text-based format for printing.
Individual messages may have a Reply, Edit and Delete button. Edit and delete only appear to the original poster.
A user may click the To: or From: name to immediately open the Send Private Message window set To: the chosen member.
On each message window's lower left is the Options popup. The options are:
Print: Prints the individual message. Depending on Browser this may open the OS print dialog automatically.
E-mail: Opens a page to e-mail the single message to other members.
Bookmark Page: Depending on Browser type & settings this will add a bookmark to the message to the user's browser bookmarks.
Add to Friends: Adds the From: to the user's forum stored preferences as a friend. |
