According to the AP, through Netscape News,    protesters who were bussed into Washington free of charge by conservative astro turf groups attempted to storm Congressional offices in hopes of derailing the long anticipated health care legislation.

``This bill is the greatest threat to freedom that I have seen,'' House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio told the crowd.

To make their point,  amid shouts of "Kill the bill",  the most glaring signs  conservatives proudly carried said "National Socialist Health Care: Dachau, Germany - 1945" with large images of emaciated corpses in the death camp.  Another sign spotted in the crowd read:   "Obama takes his orders from the Rothchilds," a reference to theories of Jewish world dominance centered around the prominent Jewish family of Rothschilds.

Less than a month ago,  conservatives took to the airwaves denouncing Alan Grayson's use of the word "holocaust" in generic terms to describe the preventable deaths of those who don't have health care.

This was the response:

"Regardless of one’s position on the issue of healthcare reform, comparing the American healthcare system to the systematic murdering of over six million Jews is totally outrageous and unfit for someone holding public office," said Hasner in a statement. "Congressman Grayson should apologize to the Jewish community and the families of those whose loved ones were brutally executed. I’d also encourage Mr. Grayson to take a walk tomorrow afternoon to the U.S. Holocaust Museum so he can witness for himself just how offensive and inappropriate his statement is."

Republican Jewish Coalition executive director Matt Brooks also said the remarks were "outrageous."

"To link health care to the Holocaust is beyond the pale," he said,

What do they say to conservatives using the Holocaust ?

What's your opinion on the signs carried in Washington?   Is the GOP on the verge of becoming a party of hate?

How do I feel about those protest signs? One read "Politicians lie, people die." I know it's off-topic, but it immediately brought to mind all the lies told by the last administration as incentive to attack Iraq.

It worked for them back then; do they hope to accomplish the same with more lies regarding healthcare reform? First it was "death panels" and now it's comparing it to the holocaust? If that's their choice of manipulation, then why did they denounce Alan Grayson's much different use (generic) of the word?

It's clear that they will spend any amount of money to stop reform that will directly affect those lobbyists residing in D.C., and we all know who they are.

I was taken by the fact it was "Americans for Prosperity",  the astro turf front group founded by billionaire David Koch,  that had the staffers from AFP handing out the signs to the people who rode the Koch buses free of charge to attend this rally.

It's striking that people weren't repulsed by the imagery or the NAZI rhetoric and chants used with the Republicans in Congress.

Did anyone get up on stage to say, "It's wrong!"?   I'm not aware of any reports,  are you?

Maybe nnot that "It's wrong!", but read this News Hounds account of the protest, which sets the record straight as far as how FOX News viewed the protest:

Sean Hannity took time out from covering the shootings at Fort Hood to give some PR for Michele Bachmann’s tea party protest in Washington earlier yesterday (11/5/09). The two grossly exaggerated the crowd size, perpetuated a fiction that no astroturfing had occurred and left out any mentions of the extremist, anti-Obama signs, many of which had nothing to do with health care reform. With video.

I always think it's smart to follow the money and learn who's funding the people who're so willing to listen to and participate in NAZI sloganeering at the foot of the Capitol.

Apparently,  the Americans for Prosperity has a long sordid history with the Republicans and are available for "rent" to whatever group wants warm bodies to come forward to "protest".

Americans for Prosperity is all about fear-mongering as far as I can see. I just checked out their website.

I wonder what they're getting out of this?

$$$$$.  Warm bodies who'll do their biding by holding signs and protest against policies that'll be in their self-interest.

After all,  why would anyone protest against decent health care for every American?   Or in favor of tobacco?

Hypocrisy is the chief tenant of the GOP.  They denounce anyone ELSE using the WWII references, but never themselves.  The Party of No is the Party of Hypocrisy.

I guess they must have pretty good insurance themselves; it's either that or they're too ignorant to realize they're working against their own best interests. Money can only take you so far when it comes to your health.

I'm sure you've noticed how many people on local or national news segments who're obviously taking advantage of Medicare and protesting "government-run health care".   I'm unsure if they're radio listeners and FOX viewers but there's no doubt they're easily duped by the corporations running these programs.

Limbaugh and FOX are experts in fear-mongering, and it's easy to see how they manage to fool people if you listen to them. It's not that they're truthful; it's that they know exactly how to misinterpret the truth.
