Its been awhile, almost five years, since I had a teenager in my house.   I guess you could say that the nest is empty.  I still deal with teens in Venturing, the older BSA scouting for both boys and girls.  I have noticed that today's teens are different.  I suspect that the teens I see are probably a bit different.  Scouting helps them set achievable goals,  and rewards their progress.  But for teens in general, today, how are they different from the 60's,  70's, 80's, and 90's?

James, I'm not sure what "Cjamge" of Routine means, but to address your question about teens in general today... I think they are different in the number of choices they must make each day. There is more danger in their world (whoever heard of a 'drive by shooting' in 1966?) The internet brings a set of problems we never dreamed of...instant messages, cyber-bullying, sexting. It was thought you could get a good job with a highschool education. Now it's not certain you'll get a good job with a college education. If we were daring and wanted to, the drug we experimented with in highschool was marijuana (if it could be found in suburbia) and beer, and perhaps a little LSD in college...nothing compared to the ecstasy and crack and crystal meth out there now. Our music was oh-so tame ("I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and "Wild Thing...you make my heart sing...you make everything...")
Now the lyrics of songs can't be printed here in the family forum!

Yep...the times they are a changin'

Well, not everyone participated in drug abuse, and not everyone thought "the War" was wrong.  Ecstasy, crack, and meth have been around for quite some time, and the current generation did not create it.  Meth is from our days, ecstasy and crack probably ten to fifteen years ago.  I remember, as a judge advocate, conducting a hearing on a female airman who was caught with ectasy back in 1998.

We have had the revolution generation, the me generation, etc.  What is the current generation called, and why?

I do think that the personal computer is changing everyone's lifestyle, and signficantly affecting the family.  I remember how we used to gather in front of our black and white television on Saturday night, after Saturday night baths, and watch several western shows (Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel, and the Rifleman).  Wrestling was in there for 30 minutes also.

Today, with TV's and computers in our different rooms, many families have lost that togetherness completely, except maybe for meal time.  Also, computers have speeded up the dissemination of news, and makes us work much faster.  Whatcha think?
