Hello everyone,

Today, the new permanent Secretary of the Nobel Committee, Peter Englund, announced the winner of the Nobel Prize for literature, Romanian born German Herta Müller, whose novels circle round the sad fate of dispossessed people in post-war Europe. Was Englund, himself a history scholar, instrumental in the choice of Müller? We shall never know for sure. Discussions on the committee are strictly hush-hush. Of the 18 members, 2 resigned over the Rushdie fatwa affair, and 1 walked out for good when the choice fell on the Austrian writer Elfriede Jelinek.

Just thought I'd say hello.

Hi Hans,

I gave the Nobel Committee a piece of my mind on this, and apparently I wasn't alone.  Their unprecendented public press confeernce pretty much said they were on the defensive.

So, can they enumerate what he has done? <g>

Pegged him to a "T".

Founding Chair of Hopenchange, Inc.  That's about all I can figure.
