I haven't bought anything yet, but plan on slowly adding to my holdings and establishing new ones in some of the beaten down stocks.  I think we will start to see a slow recovery in 2009.  I hope so at least.

Dow's 11% yield is certainly enticing.  I thought of buying some more today, but I'm terribly busy with stuff in the house.  Maybe tomorrow.

Manifest Investing shows DOW with a 3.7% yield. Where do you see 11%?

Etana,

I have no idea why the difference.  I generally use Yahoo Finance for investment information such as dividend yield.

Here is another source with the same high dividend yield.  This should be an automatic daily calculation.

Hi Etana,

If you look at the column heading in your MI dashboard, it says "Proj. Yield" - which is projected yield not current yield.

MI bases its method on creating an expected income statement in order to arrive at their "PAR" (projected annual return) ratings.  So what they are showing is how much they expect the dividend to contribute to the total return over the next 5 years, rather than what the current yield is.  I believe MI refers to this as "looking thru the windshield, not the rear view mirror".  At least that is how I understand their methodology.

Personally, I like seeing the current yield too!

Steve

I heard someone talking on CNBC this morning about the problems revealed in GMs SEC filings, which sounded really bad.  He then noted that Ford didn't have that problem, as they had taken care of it 4 or 5 years ago.

I see us driving Fords again.  They seem to have the best chance if we can get a level playing field.  I just happened to catch the movie "Gung Ho" about the Japanese taking over a American Auto Plant.  It was made in 1986 and we still didn't learn.

For $20B with a capital B. to the big Three,  can our government give each of us a coupon to go buy a car?

It is taxpayer's money anyway, why not give to the taxpayer money as coupon and the coupon is redeemable at the car dealers.  The taxpayer gets a new car and the companies move car out of their lots.

I can have a use for a car today.  May be too simplistic idea.

Give to the bankers and the money went to nowhere land!!!!

Now we are talking about $700B.  Why not just give anyone making less than $250,000; $250,000.  If we are going to transfer wealth let's at least do it fairly.  (G)

sorry Bob, the math doesn't work. That only gives funds to the first 80,000 people.  What are the other 267,419,000 people going to get?

Bob,

Good point maybe I'll need to lower the amount of $250,000 or maybe we can raise the EITC amount.  How does $50,000 work?
