I just read a not-so-serious article in the WSJ that shows that the economy improves when the Yankees when the World Series and does poorly when the Phillies win.  That makes me feel good since I'm a Yankee fan and they are ahead.  I'll be cheering for them and the economy tonight. Mostly the Yankees.  <G>

Nancy,

For some reason, which I cannot recall, I began rooting for the Yankees in 1946 when they came in third in the AL.  I could have easily become a Cardinal or Red Sox fan as they battled it out for the World Series.  I still hold a warm spot for the Cards as I saw most of the 1946 team play the following year.

I became a baseball and a Yankee fan in October, 1955. I happened to be walking past a 'tavern' in Buffalo, NY, on my way back home after purchasing some beer for my uncle (you could do that back then from local stores), and I happened to see this game on a small Philco (black and white, of course). Yogi Berra was at bat and proceeded to hit a grand slam HR, giving the Yankees an 8-3 (I believe) lead over the Dodgers in the game. The next day, I found out that the Dodgers won that game (11-8, I believe). I've been a Yankee fan ever since.

I was fortunate enough to be able to see many a game at the original Yankee Stadium when I lived in Pennsylvania. Saw a lot of Phillies games under a Lehigh Avenue Moon, too.

Al,

It is amazing how those "kid memories" tend to stick.

I too grew up in Pennsylvania so it was all about the Phillies and Pirates.

In 1960, I was called away from game seven when I answered the telephone.  I came back just in time to see the celebration AFTER Mazeroski's home run.  Now I just let the phone ring for Grace. (vbg)

PS  I'm taping the current game and will watch it in a few moments.  Looks bad for the Yanks right now.

I began rooting for the Yankees when we lived in MN in the 1940s.  My father listened to baseball games on our radio.  I would think he rooted for the Dodgers, as he grew up in Brooklyn.   I remember being on the school bus in Rome in 1955 and/or 1956 and we had Yankee fans and Dodger fans and each group was cheering for its team.  I guess someone had a radio.

Don't forget about those Athletics.  The Joe Buck trivia question last night was which American Leaque team has won the second highest number of world champion ships behind the Yankees 26.  I admit I did not know but it was the Athletics with 9.  Connie Mack would be proud.  Another bit of trivia Connie's grandson is now a member of Congress.

Dan,

I became a Yankee fan because of the movies.  Babe Ruth, Iron Man, Whitey Ford, and many others who seemed to be hero's.  Recently I became a Ranger Fan.  When they didn't make the playoff's, I root for the Yankees.  Last night was anothe Cliff Lee show.  Luckily he cannot pitch every night.  If the Phillies make it to game 7, Lee says he'll be ready and the Yankee's may have their hands full.

I just hope there is good weather!

Your post reminds me of the Braves many years ago when for the World Series their slogan was Spawn and Sain and two days of rain.

Dan,

The Atlanta Braves ( I must qualify) were my team until TBS took them off the air.  As you may note, I'm not a loyal fan of a particular baseball team. (G)  Talk football and it is the Dallas Cowboys.  I saw them play in the Cotton Bowl when tickets were a $1.

I'll be rooting for the Longhorns on Saturday and the Saints on Sunday.  I'll be rooting for the Yankees on whichever day.  In about an hour I'll be watching Dancing with the Stars.  Last night we had to switch back and forth among the Saints, Yankees and DWTS.  I didn't make it to the end though, because i was too sleepy.

-----------------

I play Fantasy Football - Drew Brees is my QBK.  John Carney is my Kicker and I have the Saints for my Defense.  I am currently tied for 1st in my league at 5-2.  So I'll be rooting for these Saints for sure.  They've served me well so far.

The Yankees won.  Hurray!!!  Now the economy should turn around - if you believe correlations mean causation.

Nancy,

Congrats!  From what I heard they charged for a seat, game 7 would have done more for the economy. (G)
