"The Public Health Agency of Canada does not recommend that members of the general public wear surgical masks to protect against contracting H1N1 Flu Virus. Evidence shows that this is not effective in preventing transmission of influenza in the general public. People often use masks incorrectly, or contaminate themselves when putting masks on and taking them off, which could actually increase the risk of infection."

I have been told that drywall masks are useless for everything including drywall dust. IMO, the only masks you should buy are N95 Osha rated masks. That is what emergency responders use. Depending on which ones you buy, some even come with an exhaust port that keeps your glasses from fogging up.

I have heard that it is optional but a good idea for people who are sick to wear an N95 mask if they have to go out in public. That keeps the infection off of your hands and keeps you from blowing germs into people's faces. Does anyone know if that is true?

Finally, I take exception to the Canadian government's assertion that the lay people are a danger to themselves by attempting to use a mask in the absence of medical training. We are talking about a mask here. No moving parts. Rubber band(s) to the rear. Filter area to the front. Bend metal tab to close gap around nose. Do not install or deinstall without first disinfecting hands. Now, how hard is that? Maybe they don't have enough masks to go around so they make them sound dangerous so you won't want one? Or, they have an interesting opinion on the general IQ of their population.

Respectfully, H95 masks are as useless as they are dangerous.

Principally, the mask does not seal the area under one's eyes over the bridge of the nose. Air enters under the eyes. If one "really" wanted to protect themselves, they would buy a proper respirator mask.... but who the hell is going to walk around in public like that?

Furthermore, the virus enters one's body through a fluid membrane... like their eyes. So, you'd have to walk around with your eyes closed too.

The problem with the cheap H95 masks is: upon the presumption of safety, people take stupid chances.

A lot of people are becoming very rich, selling the piece of junk masks.

Actually, I believe the OSHA rating is N95 and not H95. The fire department and paramedics use them. I wonder why. I will forward your thoughts so they can perhaps save some money in the future. Also, OSHA seems to have created a specification for a dangerous and useless device. We should probably take it up with them as well. Thanks for the input.
