And, according to the crawl on the Fox NewsChannel, has given her support to the Democrat Party candidate, Bill Owens.  So now we have the specter of the hand-picked Republican candidate who received the endorsement of such Republican Party luminaries as Newt Gingrich and Michael Steele apparently offering her support to the Democrat Party.  In addition, we now have Republicans like John Boehner rushing to endorse the Conservative Party candidate at the last minute.  Reports indicate that some Republicans actually endorsed Scozzafava while others stood silent (tacit acceptance of Scozzafava?).  The Republican Party is trying to catch up to the people.

If this circus doesn't lend credibility to those (and I am one) who believe that the Republican Party has or is about to implode, then I don't know what does.  I believe that it is time for another house cleaning in the Republican Party.  The Party leadership still doesn't get it and probably never will.  The Republican Party has yet to present a strong message that is a credible alternative to the Democrat Party's "nanny state", and it still has no strong, convincing messenger.

I can't agree more.  Scozzafava also needs to be frog-marched out of the party, but I'll be surprised if it happens.

Those who chose her and those who endorsed her are merely a symptom of a deeper problem within the Republican Party.  When Eric Cantor was having those dog-and-pony shows to "listen to the people", one of his compatriots was Jeb Bush.  I remember hearing Jeb say something to the effect that the Party had to move forward and forget it's past.  I took that to indicate a reference to the mantra of some that "the era of Reagan is over".

Those people are wrong.  The Republican Party doesn't need a clone of Ronald Reagan.  Rather it needs the kind of message and leadership he offered to the people.  The Parry needs to offer a clear alternative to the message of the Democrat Party.  It hasn't produced one because it is still attempting to create the "Big Tent" by pandering to a variety of interest and pressure groups.  As long as it continues to do that, it will suffer disastrous defeats.

Gingrich is a good example.  He talks the talk when he's on Hannity but then he goes out and does commercials and public appearances with the democrats.  I grew up in upstate NY and was surrounded by liberals who called themselves republicans.  And people wonder why NY has a Conservative Party.  If Newt thinks he has a chance at the presidency in 2012 he needs to seek mental help.  There really is nobody out there who can deliver the message and be the leader.  If we do gain seats in Congress next year it won't last long, and it won't make a meaningful difference.  They'll all trot up to the White House and be good little boys and girls as they seek to ingratiate themselves to the liberals.

I am a "New Yorker In Exile"; I can't afford to live there.  NYS Republicans have always been liberal; one needs only to go back to Nelson Rockefeller and George Pataki; I don't remember Tom Dewey.  Rudy was no Conservative though at times he did make attempts go govern like one.

Until this latest fiasco, I might have supported Newt only because he was the architect and driving force behind the Contract With America.  We need a new version now to galvanize those who are disgusted with both parties.  Instead, the Republican Party is trying to out-pander the Democrat Party in an attempt to create a "big tent".

actually I disagree.  Palin has done quite well.  Remember Her endorsement of Hoffman turned the tide in his favor.  She is viable because she is not one of the Old boys network that is disconnected in DC

Down the road Palin could be the party savior, but she isn't there yet in my view.  I'd be happy to vote for her, as I was last fall.  Part of her problem is the entrenched moderates and liberals in the party who can't stand the notion of Sarah Palin leading it.  That is a huge barrier she needs to overcome.  There are too many Dede Scozzafava's lurking in the Republican party.

she has two years more of working on it.  Thus far she has been very successful in her efforts.  She appears to be picking her fights and winning them as she goes, right from facebook which is a change.

As much as I hate to admit it, her appearance on the Oprah show could be a make or break event.  Sarah Palin has to handle Oprah with conviction and clarity.  She can't afford another Charles Gibson or Katie Couric performance.  I was ecstatic when McCain selected her as his running mate.  I continue to believe that the Party establishment as well as the mainstream media did her in.

>>when she is allowed to be herself she win<<

That's my take on it as well...

What we saw during the RNC campaign was a too carefully re-manufactured version of the real thing...

I suspect this is just the first of many times her influence will be felt in the near future<G>

Compared with the Republicrats and Democans frustrating the rest of us she's absolutely brilliant as a Conservative light-in-the-darkness<VBG>

"Here's my strategy on the Cold War: We win, they lose." - Ronald Reagan
Cowardice asks the question, 'Is it safe?' Expediency asks the question, 'Is it politic?' Vanity asks the question, 'Is it popular?' But conscience asks the question, 'Is it right?'And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because one's conscience tells one that it is right.-- Martin Luther King, Jr.

I liked her response to Biden's "drill baby drill"
it was "Hoffman baby Hoffman"
she trumps them so well and with so few words the media is having trouble spinning what she says.  It is hard to spin what we can read for ourselves.
