Have you received the new Medicare & You Handbook-2010.?
On page 125 regarding the Paret B Deductible, it says;
In 2009," You pay the first #135 yearly for Part B-covered services." A typo error, correct?

What part of it do you think is a typo?   My page looks correct to me.

Patricia,please open the book to page 125. It reads:

" In 2009, you pay the first $135 yearly for Part B-covered services or items".

Since this book is for 2010, shouldn't it read;

"In 2010, you pay the first $135..........."

Don't you notice the typographic error?

Larry

No.  If you'll notice, the previous couple pages ALL say, "In 2009" -- because when the book was prepared, the numbers weren't final for 2010.

How did you see the 2009 on page 125, and not see it on pages 123-124?

That's why you have a Medigap Policy or Medicare Advantage Polcy.  Those pay for what Medicare doesn't pay for.

I was using the rhetorical "you".  I could have said "that's why there are Medigap Policies or Medicare Advantage Policies".

>>>>>That's why you have a Medigap Policy or Medicare Advantage Polcy. Those pay for what Medicare doesn't pay for.<<<<<

To me, anyway, Medigap, and the Advantage policy are "extra" expense. "Original" Medicare is sufficient for my needs since I only need medical expense for Audiology visit only once, and very rarely, twice a year, paying about 15 dollars per visit "after" Medicare pays the 80 per cent. My other "medical" expenses are under the Department of Veterans Affairs, where I pay NOTHING, except for an eight dollar co-pay for each 30-day prescription medication. So, as I mentioned earlier, Original Medicare is enough for me.
Incidentally, I don't know why it says in the 2010 Handbook, "In 2009, *you* pay $135 per year....", INSTEAD of saying "In 2010 *you* may pay $135 per year..." which makes more sense to me, since I have already paid my $135 deductible.Larry T.aka l123t456.

Like most explanatory letters from government agencies (or any big corporation) the language is purposely generalized in an attempt to cover everyone and every instance. As a result said letter/booklet ends up more confusing than enlightening.  ;-(

My personal hate are the informational letters/booklets we receive from the huge, multi merged company advising us about our retirement benefits.  To save space (and totally confuse readers) they use endless numbers of acronyms. It's like reading a foreign language.

It appears that because they didn't have the 2010 information yet, they simply repeated the 2009 pages exactly.   At the very top of that section, it says:  At the time of printing, not all of the premiums and other amounts you pay for 2010 were available.

From what I have heard, Social Security being paid to us is not going to change.  However, I  have not heard about the things we have to pay for.  Is the part B deductible going to go up?

According to the revised Medicare & You booklet I found online, yes.  It will be $155 in 2010.
