Several sources say that AARP will endorse ObamaCare.  There is nothing in any of the bills I've heard about that will help Seniors, much less the economic future of this country.  Now I know why i quit that organization several years ago.

I've noticed that AARP always endorses United Healthcare for Medicare D.  It makes me wonder if they are not owned by United or paid by United.

I have heard that AARP gets substantial fees for endorsing the variety of policies that carry the AARP brand.  And that's OK with me.  I'll simply vote with my feet, look for the best coverage and buy it.  Those seniors who blindly buy anything with the AARP brand may be dense, but that's their choice.

Of course they are paid.

AARP does not have any insurance policies itself; it sub-contracts with various insurance companies.  For Part D, the contract is apparently with United.  My mother worked for the AARP section of Prudential for years, when that company had some of AARP's coverages.

It seems to me that they should be endorsing companies that will benefit its members who also pay it.  Oh well.

I would imagine that based on their criteria, that's what they do.  They have millions and millions of policy-holders nationwide to consider.

The AARP is run by far left liberals and they have the biggest lobby in D.C.  I do not belong.

They need to be investigated like Acorn was.  I dropped my membership several years ago...now when I get "new membership" cards, I cut them up and send them back in the envelope.  I smelled a rat years ago, and now I can't remember why!  :-)  LOL!

The Obama Administration is using AARP's endorsement as it used the AMA's endorsement.  What most people don't know is that the AMA apparently represents only a small fraction of doctors.  Those seniors who do not subscribe to the AARP's policies ought to let their Senators know that, too.

I just did a few minutes ago.  Sent an e-mail.  Hope someone reads it.  Told my Senator that AARP does not represent me and that while changes were needed in the health care system,  I was opposed to ObamaCare in any form.

Which is to say that, even if what you call "ObamaCare" included some of the changes you think the system needs, you'd be opposed to it? What changes do you think are needed?

In essence, what is currently moving through the House and Senate bears little relationship to what Obama had called for anyhow. I fail to see why it should be called "ObamaCare." The first thing they need to do over there is to get the profit motive out of the health care system - though the hope is that starting to tame the insurance companies at least gets that ball rolling.
Cheers,
Bev

I saw a segment on TV news a couple of nights ago of how one town (or maybe it was the hospital) has taken the profit motive out.  I think it is in AZ or NM.  Anyway, the docs are paid the same regardless of whether the person has Medicare or insurance or can't pay.  The docs said they think young docs are more amenable to change.  They like their system and the hospital does not lose money.  They did say that they didn't think their system could just be transplanted everywhere.  I forget why.

Mine was Republican and voted "No," but another LA Republican voted "Yes."  He was from a different district.

Good evening folks, I am the one that posted the vote results on the Health Care Act 3962. I was in a hurry last night and really don't have to post this but I'm going to make the time anyway.

My screen name is ElCondor1776, a middle aged man, and I have been involved in the political process as a citizen for over 30 years. I can vote straight on a party line but every now and then I will break the rules and cross over if a candidate seems to be of good character and the other fellow seems shady.

I wanted to take a moment of your time and let you know that even though you may be in your Golden Years, each and everyone of you is still important to the political process. Whether you supported the health care bill or not is not of my concern, what is my concern is that you realize that you still count, have a strong voice, and despite what anyone may say your vote is stronger and more precious now then ever before.

Back in January I had some strong concerns about the Recovery Act and had some stats and numbers to back up my concerns. As you know, the act did pass both houses and President Barrack Obama signed the bill into law. Now again, I reiterate, whether I supported the measure or not should not be of any consequence to you, what you should know is what a friend of mine told me later.

A couple of months ago, a friend of mine surprised me with a call during a drive through the country. Her words caused me to pull over. You see, I had emailed her a copy of the report, statistics, and my letter only to have her to tell me some very shocking news, it had probably been thrown away. As you can imagine, I was a little hurt and on the inside felt a little insulted that she would be so blunt. She then continued and told me about someone had told her that they new an intern who worked in a representitives office. Typed letters it seems, go into one pile and if your lucky, you may get a blanket form letter.

So what can you do? Well my friend was also kind enough to tell me that I should hand write my letters in the future and if I add a report then it should be attached to a hand written letter. In addition she gave me a website to give some pointers on how to write your letter and some key elements. It turns out that when your letter is handwritten and you know the name and number of the law, you will then get their attention! So here is a little help for you folks, below you will find two links to click on. One will lead you to the website I just told you about and the other will get you to the website with information on the bills name and number. Remember, a bill that starts with HR means that it was started in the House of Representatives. A bill that starts with S means that it was started in the US Senate.

Now go ahead and exercise voice and remember a vote knows no age, race, color, nationality or creed. You are still the backbone of our nation who has made many sacrifices and built this nation into what it is today.

My best wishes to all of you and thank you for all that you have done.

Perhaps it's just me, but that message sounds so incredibly condescending.

I always vote, because I believe it's my right and my duty to do so, but since I live in an area that always votes for one party I often feel my vote does not count.  Nonetheless, I vote.
