REACT: DAVID LETTERMAN ADMITS AFFAIRS, CLAIMS EXTORTION

TELL US: SHOULD CBS DUMP DAVID?

In what can only be described as a stunning revelation, David Letterman admitted to his 'Late Show' audience that he had sexual relationships with female employees and that he had been the subject of an extortion threat that demanded he either pay $2 million or risk having the affairs made public.

A related investigation has resulted in the arrest of a CBS News producer who had reportedly lived with one of the key individuals at the center of the affair allegations.

Letterman's initial revelations have also resulted in a media frenzy and tabloid speculation over the identities of the individuals involved in the affairs, some short-lived ribbing on the part of some other late-night shows, as well as a subsequent on-air apology by Letterman to his wife and staff.  Find out more.

While Letterman's on-air apologies have resulted in an initial spike in viewership, some have questioned whether the revelations will -- or, in fact, should -- ultimately result in reduced ratings for the 'Late Show,' particularly amongst female viewers, or whether they should even be cause for an outright dismissal from his reign as the king of CBS late-night television.  Read more.

What is your reaction to Letterman's claims?  Has your opinion of the talk show host changed as a result of these revelations, and if so, how?

Do YOU feel that CBS should dump Letterman over the 'sex with staff' revelations?  Why or why not?

Were the affairs during his first marriage and/or his second marriage?  Who knows?  If he fooled around when he wasn't married, then "affair" is the incorrect word to use.  Letterman has always loved the ladies.  He practically comes unglued when Julia Roberts is on his show, and also Sara Jessica Parker.  It's an ego thing with him.  He pretends he is the quiet type and doesn't like to mingle with people but I've always thought he was saying that and he probably did whatever he wanted to and with whomever he wanted to.  I have always felt that inter-0ffice relationships are very inappropriate and Letterman, as the boss, should know better and I am sure he does.  But whatever he and the women did was probably consensual.  If not, why hasn't at least one of the women filed a suit against him for sexual harrassment?  The women like him, they liked their jobs, they were having a fling, and they all moved on.  Letterman was telling the audience what happened, which wasn't much, and he was telling it in a humorous manner which I thought was "typical Letterman".  I am more surprised at knowing that the blackmailer still works for his show and I'll bet the person is a female who was spurned by him.  I've never had a great opinion of the man so this doesn't bother me at all.

It doesn't matter if he was married when he did this, he is still a pig for taking advantage of his employees

Well, you know what they say. "Once a pig, always a pig" I have never liked him, and so, I
very seldom watch his show. I have no idea why he regularly wears white socks, but,
I always think his feet are diseased. Also, rudeness can be overdone. Give me a good book.

The descriptive phrase 'sexual harassment' comes to mind . Mr Letterman should know that as in all else, we don't live in glass houses'. Wonder if now, that he has saved himself 2 million bucks, he'll be able to live down the fact that he is after all just another jerk that likes to  gets freebies Incidently and by the way, this isn't about Extortion, it is about a man using his status to have sex and being exposed. I never have particularly liked Mr Letterman brand of humor(? ) Now  I wonder if he can joke his way out of this one...guess I'll have to sit back, watch and perhaps laugh.

David Letterman was not married to any one at the time of this supposively affairs.  The other men involved were married.  if the woman in volved did not object, why is he being punished about this.  He was a single big time showman and of course they women were there for the picking.  How many women have you seen marry someone on the show they are working with.  David is not in the same spector as the former Senators, Presidents, and others.

David Letterman did no wrong and he should stay on the show.  Evidently his wife was on of the staffers and she was not in the dark about his dating staff members.

i have never watched david letterman because he came across as a
jerk the first time i saw him. does he look and/or act like someone
you'd buy a used car from? i do read the late talk show jokes and i
do read his also. seems like he is hung up on sarah palin, i wonder
what's his problem with her, but some of the others are still at it
as well, the jokes are old and boring and letterman really went too
far when he attacked the daughter of sarah palin. he was sorry when
it blew up in his face. he probably was born a jerk, has been a jerk
all of his life and will probabaly be a jerk for the rest of his life.

Did David Letterman cross the line when he had sex with staff? Yes and he has applogized and is remorsful. Mr. Letterman was single and according to CBS did not break harrasment guidelines. Should he be fired because others simply dont like him? No. How many celebrity's or just everyday people committ the same act and often deny it? , to many to count, including a past president. Mr.Letterman went public with this issue, asked for forgiveness so "ye without sin , cast the first stone". A word of advice for those tht are so judgementl; there probably wouldnt be one television show, movies, theatre, etc if we judged all by their "dirty laundry". Perhaps all of the human race? lol Mr. Letterman has proved that he part of society and has indeed fallen short. So go ahead watch something else if u must but remember none of us are perfect.

Yes, CBS should dump Letterman for his stupidiy and insensitivity. I have actually stopped watching him after his criticism and crass jokes about Sarah Palin during the election. I'd much rather watch Leno any day.

Any executive of a major business who has sex with his employees will be immediately fired, because he's using his position of power to probably force these people to have sex with him.

Married or not has no bearing on it. Yet the idiots in his audience applauded when he bragged about it under the guise of confession.

CBS should push the handle and flush this dirtbag down the toilet with the other waste!

The actions of his audience demonstrates the level of intelligence of those people!

For the sake of his family who does not deserve to be treated as a side show to his

undoubtable lust for extra-marital affairs with other women. No comedian should be

put on a pedestal an shown no fault, just because he can wrap up his infidelity as a

comic routine on his TV show. Outside of his own stuck up like for himself, people

should know what a marrige vow should means, and it's evident Mr. David does not.

Yes he should be removed from his CBS late night show.

He should be dumped but not because of his transgressions--if that's what they were. dump because his show is so lame--it's as bad as sat night live at times. Eg, "will it float" and other sad skits or sketches, plus he refuses to talk to his audience most of the time--he talks to that bozo bandleader most times. He might have the ratings now but only because NBC lost Leno. Dump Dave hire Jay. Fix two problems at same time.

I think most people agree he was wrong having affairs? But it doesnt appear he coerced these woman. He didnt threaten jobs or salaries. That means they consented to it, they wanted to have sex with David Letterman. If they know he is in a relationship and still do it anyway, why is he the one taking the heat for it? Because he is a wealthy man who some veiwers dont like because of his sense of humor? Could be his striking good looks and warm personality? Maybe some of you ladies are a little jealous you didnt get some Dave love? Maybe men are upset because he got caught by a diary? There ya go guys, just when you thought it was all behind you, the jealous x finds a diary.

It takes two and both parties are equally responsible. If he is booted from the show, shouldnt any women involved with the show be booted too? After all, they did sneak around with him and agreed to have sex at his hide away. Lets bash him some more, then examine your own life and relationship decisions. Ever had an affair? Should you be or were you fired for it? Go ahead, throw that first stone.

I say he is gonna have enough wrath from his wife and her lawyer regardless of them being married or not when it happened. Heck, lets talk about some of our respected politicians who have been so openly busted for this stuff and doing it on taxpayer money. Should they be banished from public service for the rest of their lives? I think so, let Letterman keep his show. He didnt cost us a dime while he was having his affairs and he is there for our entertainment, although I doubt this is what he had in mind? Good luck to ya David, Late Night wouldnt be the same without you.
